Things I was looking at.

First off, how bad does it suck to be Florida State. Been the the CWS 19x and choked each time. Nice!

LSU could easily have 7 N.C. They hould have won it in 1998. I remember that year, USC had some lucy things go their way.

If LSU can win it again next year, then they should move up to 5th for all time wins (if Standford or Oklahoma St. don't make it)

Texas has like 33 appearances and 6 titles.

We have 15 appearances and 6 titles....

I like our titles to appearances ratio.

If they win again next year, the only thing that is important is that it would make 7 titles, which would be 2nd all time. Everything else is irrelevant IMO

They usually wait until Omaha to choke. This year they got it out of the way a little earlier.

LSU was so close to winning in 1987, the year Bertman had to kick Albert "Joey" Belle off of the team before the post season....

of course, we easily could not have won in 1993, 1996, and 2000.

I highly doubt that each of those 19 times they choked. Most of the time, you lose because there are better teams than your team.

No, I think that if you are 0-19...that's called choking. Just about every team that's made it over 10x has won it.

**Florida State and Clemson are the only 2 teams who have made it over 10x and not won it.

So USC beating LSU twice = LSU should have won the title that year?

Was that the year LSU hit a lot of solo home runs? Just wondering because the Austin paper claims UT scored 17 runs off of 14 home runs during this CWS. After reading that stat I remembered that one year LSU hit a lot of home runs and still lost the game.

They have a fear of having the same number of titles in baseball as their Baptist school ACC brother.

that was the year where every team involved did nothing but hit loads of HRs...it was pretty dumb actually.

I really thought that was the best LSU team from 96-98 but they came up short.

I sure didn't think they were gonna lose twice to USC. That NC game was a joke though, and iirc the bats were changed the next year.

I went for the whole tourney in '98. U$C was a very close play at the plate in the 9th against Florida from going 2-and-bbq.

Correct. I believe the final score of that ASU/USC CWS final was like 20 - 14.

And in one of the LSU games we hit 8 home runs i think.

Belle's temper and outbursts had always been a distraction. The straw that broke the camel's back was when he left the playing field to go after another team's bus driver that was yelling at him from the other side of the fence.

In that '98 series, LSU was blasting everybody out of the park, homer after homer. Then a big COLD front came through and the bats went dead! I seem to rememeber they played the USC games in February type weather-frigid!
Plus had LSU won it all that year, we would have been the only team other than USC to win 3 straight. They were on a mission to keep that record all to themselves.
