It just boggles the mind that anyone would defend McMahon.
Even without competitive NIL support his first 3 years (which is HIGHLY DEBATABLE), a good coach would show consistent signs of maximizing whatever talent he had. McMahon has never exhibited this trait.
Wade in his second game at LSU beat top 10 ranked Michigan, and was consistently competitive his entire tenure here, and everywhere he's been for that matter.
There are only 2 logical explanations why we have the everything is rosy crowd with McMahon.
1) McMahon's supporters really don't like basketball, they're "baseball bros" in disguise. They realize (rightfully so), that if the sleeping giant that is LSU basketball is ever awake, it'll reduce their precious baseball program to the margins it deserves to be in. ZERO major sports program's fan base prioritize baseball over football or men's basketball except for the LSU fan base.
2) They're racist, and don't want to see LSU basketball awakened. If you doubt this, take note of the multiple "where is Zipper" threads, and all of the threads blowing Mackinnon when he's a decent, but nothing special player.
These McMahon "supporters " could belong to either or both of the above groups.

Maybe some fans believe it is reasonable to give a coach who inherited a moribund program facing potentential draconian sanctions four years to develop his program. For every reason you can present that he should be terminated plausible defenses can also be raised to justify allowing him four years:
Inherited no players upon being named head coach
Facing NCAA probation
Highest rated recruit has suffered two season ending injuries
Second highest recruit had personal issues and left the team at the beginning of his junior season
Limited NIL funds
His second year showed promise with a finish in the top half of the SEC
The team has shown promise in the early going this year and hopefully will make the NCAA tournament. If not, most of those who support McMahon would support a coaching change.

So you actually believe a coach needs 4 years to revitalize a basketball program?
Why not 5? 10? Heck why not 15 years to get it rolling?
The acceptance of LESS THAN mediocrity on this board is embarrassing.

But that’s all make believe and even if it were true he still had the 16th ranked composite class nationally in year 1. He was picked to finish 6th or 7th in the SEC year 1 but only won 2 SEC games, the worst SEC record in program history. He had the 15th ranked class nationally last season and won 3 SEC games. How do you explain that if he’s such a good coach? Florida just won a natty with the 63rd ranked class.

Wow … today I learned that if you support the current LSU basketball coach you either don’t like basketball or you’re racist. Gotta love the Rant.

Nobody has ever made that argument

Are you sure about that?

Yes, what you’re suggesting and what you reposted are two different things. Supporting McMahon doesn’t make you a non LSU fan as you suggested but those of us who’ve been around awhile know for a fact that some of the mcmen aren’t LSU basketball fans. Plz tell me you’re intelligent enough to know the difference.

For whatever this is worth, On3 has LSU as a 9 seed.

If Wade had the same resume as Self he would still be here.....
Posted on 12/25/25 at 7:18 pm to 1984Tiger
What else can it be??? Please help me out with other LOGICAL reasons.
Because it SURE AS FLUCK ain't this mortician's performance as our head basketball coach.
People that don't want to see this program thrive (for whatever reason), would be perfectly happy with McMahon staying right where he is, correct????

quote:Bill Self is almost 20 years older than Wade. Wade has brought 3 different programs to the NCAAT. Wade took over a 2-16 SEC team and a team that declined NIT the year prior to that.

Delusional people. Pick your conclusion and the fill it in. If only Will Wade had 20 more years at a blue blood.

You act like Wade is some NCAA great coach. Dude has never even been on the bench in a sweet 16 game.
Posted on 12/25/25 at 7:30 pm to drizztiger
well, he needs to get moving then....sitting on the bench in a sweet 16 game would be a start....making an elite 8 would be stretching it, and a final 4 you ask? Hasn't shown the ability to get close to there....but he won some games. Were you around in the Dale Brown era, in the golden ages of that?
Posted on 12/25/25 at 7:31 pm to tigahlovah
It’s always agenda driven and the agenda is never about LSU winning basketball games.

Yes, I was a young lad watching LSU from '78-'79 and (also) ND under Phelps 11am after catechism. I know all the teams, Hi-C, 86-87, I visited LSU on their dime and met a not yet enrolled Shaq out side of Fred's. When I enrolled at LSU in Fall 89, I was literally on PMAC floor with CJ registering with me. REGGIE system was not so good then.

It’s worse than that, “good is bad and the worst is the best”
“We need another Dale Brown so you should shite on the guy who’s pace was better than his and worship the guy who’s produced the worst era ever”
Make it make sense
