I agree on that. The best pickoff at 2B is the daylight pick between infielder and pitcher or wheel move, but they haven’t done that either. I have seen some of those things you mentioned for sure with respect to offense. All of those offensive aspects are part of their BP rounds and important. I just meant other things that are not practiced enough in my opinion. I just know that other teams stole a lot of bases on us (especially 3B) and think a lot of the reason is that we don’t hold runners close or pick off at all especially at 2B. If other teams know we don’t do that and there is no threat of a pick, then it is easier to steal.

My only comment on Mainieri. I think he is a tired elderly man who is mailing it in until someone fires him. No passion. Not doing the work for his team. I think he is tired and unmotivated.

I listened to my first '21 CPM interview. And maybe that's the case but you didn't get that from the interview the OP mentions. He didn't sound tired, disengaged, or apathetic.

Just because PM says he’s not blaming Cade. Then goes on to blame Cade. Doesn’t mean he’s not blaming Cade.

Did you even HEAR the interview? Here's the quote from the OP:

quote:

Eventually, they tackled the 1-8 start. PM went after Cade Doughty and Beloso saying some players specifically them have let them down hitting.

Do you know the context in which the statements were made about Cade Doughty's hitting? Your claim that CPM "went after" him is fertilizer.

If Mainieri trots out a lineup (assuming DiGiacomo is playing) consisting of both Milazzo and Cranford and this team loses the Friday game due to lack of run support then I'm officially on the ready for a new coach train.

Kentucky is a stealing machine - 34 of 38. Milazzo is a must. Arnold hasn’t looked terrible recently, but he will almost certainly cost us runs over a three game series. Maybe he can make up for that with his bat. Probably not against their Friday guy, though,

No difference? I’ve never seen so much difference in hitting, from one season to the next, at LSU. Dramatic difference in HRs!

I know it's nothing new but it's bullshite when he gets in front of the mic and passes the buck onto specific guys.

Mainieri needs to go, but you are dead wrong here. Saban calls out players exactly as CPM does. CPM was a great coach in his day, and he treats those kids like the professionals they are all aspiring to be.

Agree to disagree. Just because Saban does something doesn’t mean it’s right. These kids aren’t professionals. I don’t care if he rips the hell out of them in the locker room, but don’t do it in the media. I’ll just never be ok with adults making millions off these kids ripping them publicly.

Just something I’ll never change my mind about.

Did you listen to the interview. Is this what you think happened?

No. He was responding to my posts from yesterday morning when I went off of just what the OP summary was. I’ve read since then it wasn’t like that.

Last post was just general response about talking in the media, not specific to yesterday’s interview.

Might as well realize PM is going nowhere with one bad season
Excuse ball will be back in 2022
How many players return will be a mystery

I don't mind Milazzo and Travinski platooning at all.

Arnold has 5 errors. It's not like he's a complete liability out there. By comparison, Morgan has 4 errors and Doughty/Thompson have 3 each. Arnold's defense is on par with Doughty, on paper. Offensively, he's on par with Thompson but in less chances. The "defensive lineup" strategy, while I wasn't completely against it in the beginning, has been a big flop. We're not going to win hoping that 2-3 runs gets the job done. Arnold needs to play.

I would like to see Arnold start tonight also. I know he has the 5 errors and that doesn’t seem like much. But with that said you have to take into consideration how many balls Cranford has gotten to that Arnold wouldn’t have

It's really not a whole lot that I can distinctly recall. Would he? Maybe so. But most of the plays that both of them have had to make have been pretty routine. Cranford's play at SS on Tuesday is the outlier. Arnold has the higher chance of booting a routine ball than Cranford, for sure, but so does the rest of the infield.

Wilson Alexander Twitter yesterday

quote:

Good news on Zach Arnold: No fracture. His hand feels sore, and Paul Mainieri has to find out if he can play, but it's a temporary issue. Mainieri's unsure if he'll be available for LSU this weekend.

quote:

Paul Mainieri said freshman Garrett Edwards "wants badly" to become LSU's third starter. "He texted me the other day after the game and was really politicking for it," Mainieri said. "He believes he can give us five-plus innings."

He’s available from my understanding. I also disagree somewhat with Drock, I think Cranford has made a bunch of plays that Arnold wouldn’t have. I also just listen to the interview. I don’t see anything wrong with what was said

I think Milazzo and Arnold should be the play tonight. I'm torn between Travinski and Beloso at DH.

Gio
Crews
Morgan
Dugas
Beloso/Travinski
Doughty
Arnold/Thompson
Milazzo
Arnold/Thompson

ETA: I'm also not opposed to Sanford or Drost at DH. I'd have to take a deeper look at the pitcher to decide, I guess.

I doubt the put Gio at leadoff, I'd like to see

Morgan 1B
Doughty 3B
Crews RF
Dugas LF
DiGiacomo CF
Arnold 2B
Beloso/Travinski/Drost DH
Milazzo C
Thompson SS

If Arnold's hurt then blow up the lineup and hope Marceaux pitches a no hitter.

I did

And calling out kids who aren't performing to his expectations isn't "fixing" anything.

Didn't need to be said
