How can Steele stop all if the busted coverages in the secondary? Do we need to simplify our coverages?

Im starting to learn that Jefferson and Adams are stout against the run but struggle against the pss at times.
We need Mills back asap.

he can stop by having three linebackers on the field against 5 WRs on 1st and 25

One is that Jamal Adams can't keep getting stuck covering a slot receiver on a crossing route. He is way to big for that and it is a hard route to cover in the first place much less with a big boy chasing a little one.

adams has pretty good ball skills but he's still learning how to run

jefferswag definitely had a game to forget but he was pretty good earlier in the year

Jefferson was getting tossed around like a rag doll. Hope he bounces back string Saturday to get some confidence going into the bye.

Sorry but Jefferson needs to see the pine. Lots of physical ability but I don't think he's a natural safety and I don't think he has the instincts you need to be a big time safety at DBU.

Dwayne Thomas. Bench him Dime back at best. We need mills back so Dwayne can stop getting beat and picked on by offensive coordinators.

the safeties and dwayne thomas have been responsible for the majority of the passing yards given up this season

I think first identify who has blown the coverages.

Several were Debo. He has played pretty well overall this year, but he has gotten lost in coverage on a number of occasions, including this game.

I think maybe Beckwith lost the TE on their first TD.

White played pretty well. Toliver has been good overall but lost sight of the ball a couple of times against Florida.

Jefferson had a bad game, as several others noted. His problems were in both pass coverage but especially in run support.

If you're referring to the 4th and 25, Florida didn't have 5 WR's, there were 3WRs, 1RB, and 1TE.

I'm willing to bet we won't see that kind of sophisticated pro style attack for the rest of the year. Plus, we didn't have much film on Harris.

Our most glaring busts were on wheel routes or TE's leaking off the line...all LB busts.

Are they just using zone way more than they used to?

Here's my other observation: it seems like we tend to tackle the receiver as soon as he makes the catch (in the current era), but saw our DBs attacking the ball with the previous defensive backs coach.
Used to be that whenever a pass was in the air, there was a better chance we caught the ball than their receivers. Now we mostly get interceptions on a tipped ball or overthrow...

No he's referring to the 1st and 25 where we gave up a 40 yard play. Then before that there was 3rd and 16 and 3rd and 17 and we gave up first downs. That is pitiful. You take away those 3 plays and get off the field, the botched punt fumbled and the punt return for a touchdown and this was a romp. All of those plays involved big mistakes either on defense or special teams. None of those plays were just great plays by Florida.

Not looking for the ball is the primary problem on the deep balls, but this happens at every level and it's difficult to cover and watch the ball too with a scrambling QB on extended plays downfield. To our credit, our deep ball for TD before the half was the result of the same issue for FL - and they have a pretty respectable bunch of DB's too! Our db's just need to get better at watching the receiver prep for a catch to anticipate timing of their jumps and looking for the ball.
