Could TM7 be the Best Football Player in LSU History?
That's a bit too general, exclusive, and way too soon.
These guys scoff at your TM7 proposition.
9X Pro Bowler Faneca?
8X Pro Bowler Mawae?
7X Pro Bowler Tittle?
7X Pro Bowler Jim Taylor
5X Pro Bowler Charley Hennigan

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I think several of the posters in here are missing the question.
TM7 may not have even peaked his full potential, yet people are already excluding him from being among the greats. Something more is afoot with these opinions IMO.
At CB, I can see where I may be incline to take Claiborne over TM7.
As a football player, I would take TM7 over any other player on LSU's team. Basically, if there were a draft among current LSU players for a new college football team, TM7 would be my first pick.
Again, this is a very subjective debate, so there is no right answer.
Thanks to all those who contributed.
God bless.

I'm talking about the player's play while at LSU, what they did afterwards is irrelevant for this discussion's purpose.
I apologize if I didn't make that more clear.

Yes it's general, yes it's soon, that's what makes for provocative debate.
It is impossible to determine "the greatest" at almost anything.
However, it is possible to consider a collection of individuals as elite.

I'd say he got nickel locked up.
If nothing else, this thread brings the memories and pride.
To be mentioned in the same sentence with the Tigers in this thread is very honorable.

how do you figure? Billy Cannon was the best player on both sides of the ball for LSU. teams didn't put up playstation stats in the 50s running the ball with 3 and 4 running backs every play. cannon also won the hiesman trophy and was on a national title team
i wasnt around during the Cannon days but the game has obviously changed a lot since then. I would assume it is much harder to play football in 2012 than it was in 1958. every athlete is bigger, faster, and stronger which makes it even more impressive that a guy the size of TM7 has accomplished what he has. however it is still very difficult to compare the two

BTW, I think I can staate definitively thatformer all-Pro Charlie Hennigan is NOT the best football player in LSU history.
Charlie attended Northwestern.

When watching the 2011-12 LSU defense, whom would you expect to make a game changing play at anytime. I love Claiborne and yes he is better in coverage than TM, but that's it.

We are talking about at LSU. Not pro career as TM 7 is a junior and not even able to enter the draft.

When you think of him as a pro prospect many people are going to say no way.
But, when you look at his college career and if he has another season like last year he has to be either 1st or 2nd. He really has been great for LSU football up to this point.
