Could possibly be the best team, more than likely one of the best defenses ever.

I think an undefeated 14-0 season, with this schedule, will be the best season in Tiger history, possibly college football history. So many ranked opponents, most on the road- dominant wins with one close one coming to #2 Bama, a National Championship game in the Dome for the third consecutive time it is there, can't get much better than this.

The 1958 team was good but I don't think it would have a chance against this team. Different game today and all players are so athletic - and fast.

Another way to look at it: their record over the last 10 game stretch would be hard to match:

While I'll concede that any "best stretch" should include an national or even conference championship, one could argue that last weekend's game came close. For degree of difficulty and dominance, this is pretty impressive for a 10 game stretch:

10 victories
9 BCS conference teams
7 ranked teams
6 SEC teams
6 road games
5 road games against ranked opponents
#14 average rank of ranked opponents
24 pts. avg margin of victory
2 top 3 opponents
1 Cotton Bowl win
1 Game of the Century win

#17 Texas A&M 41-24

#3 Oregon 40-27

Northwestern State 49-3

#25 Mississippi State 19-6

#16 West Virginia 47-21

Kentucky 35-7

#17 Florida 41-11

Tennessee 38-7

#20 Auburn 45-10

#2 Alabama 9-6 OT

That said, LSU will have to be almost as impressive to finish with a nat'l championship. Over a 5-game stretch they will have to beat all 5 teams, 4 BCS conference teams, 3 SEC teams, another top-20 opponent (SEC Champ.), another top-10 team (AR), and another #2 team, with 3 of the 5 games away from home. There's a long way to go but if they get there, it will be one of the most impressive runs in the history of college football.

I think you have a great argument about this being the best Tiger team ever, but lets not go overboard with the best collage football team ever! I feel if our offense would be as dominent as our defense, then you could say that.

Just my 2 cents....

Isn't this the first 9-0 LSU team ever?

That has ever played? Across the board, hands down the best?
Not with this marginal offense. Give me the 2003 NC team.

2003 had a better defense IMO. Not a lot better, but better.

2006 had the most talented players I've ever seen on one LSU team, but couldnt put it all together every week. 2006 was the most underperforming LSU team to me, which is strong words for an 11-2 team.

2007 had a much better offense than this team, but the defense was abysmal late in the year.

This 2011 team benefits greatly from a weak SEC. The SEC has poor offenses, let's just face that fact. 2003 would shut down these teams every bit as easily this year. 2007 would probably go undefeated too this year.

This team looks to be the best ever, IMO, but I'll save the accolades until the big 14-0 finish.

Win the Crystal Trophy in New Orleans and they can lay claim to "best ever" LSU team.

If they win out and the QB's can get back on track then I say yes they are the best LSU team ever.

Well I think this team shattered the "have to have size" debate. Their is to me no debate. I love sabans 3/4 defense, but those big arse lber's are still a liability. We have not sacrificed any strength, but are blinding fast.

I like chavis system now better then sabans. I almost like to think of this defense as a spread defense. The future college football defenses.

There is no weekness

given the schedule and we go undefeated and win a NC then i would say this is better than any LSU team in the history of LSU ,better than 03 and 06, they had losses. you cant compare to teams of old as the game has evolved, players are stronger and faster now

The 2006 team still had weaknesses. We had a below average running game.

I can't wait to see how the team performers this weekend. Some are getting down on our offense, but they just played a really great defense
