Could Stingley be the number one pick in the draft?

With the draft upcoming, it got me thinking, could Stingley be the first pick in the draft? I know it all depends on who picks first and traditionally that team usually has a terrible QB and likely would pick the best available QB but a lock down corner or disruptive pass rusher seems to be the next logical pick at that position. I don’t believe there has ever been a CB picked at number 1. Considering he continues to have great stats, could Stingley be the one?

Perhaps. Shutdown corners are highly sought after in the NFL and the 2019 QB Recruiting class was relatively weak, but I wouldn't count on it

Find me list of top soph and we can debate it
Hard to tell as not too many top Fr QB's played this past year.
The Fr QB at UNC Sam Howell put up some solid numbers so he will likely be up there.
Clear cut QB's are usually first to go.
DLineman are usually next.
A top OT will be in the mix.
CB is always a commodity NFL teams need.
My guess is that CB's are a lot easier to find so I would say top 5 for sure. Will have to be a bad draft for QB's, DE's for him to rise to #1 pick.

He's talented enough and is as "can't miss" as I've ever seen at any position, barring injury.
But it is still not a top 3 valuable position. There would have to be no "can't miss" stud at QB, DE or OT. And I doubt that would happen, there is always at least one of those 3 that is considered "can't miss".

There’s always the “more talented” guy that doesn’t go number 1 overall

Very doubtful. Rush end, receiver and QB are more important.

No. He will likely go top 5, but I’d be very surprised if we ever saw anyone not a QB, OT, or pass rusher go #1. It’s a positional value thing. Even this year, you have a pass rusher who most people would rate as the #1 overall player, but Burrow will go #1 because he’s close to Young as a prospect and there is just that much more value to a franchise QB than a franchise pass rusher.

Teams that are drafting in the top 5 rarely see CB as their highest priority.

Locked down CB’s are valuable but not as valuable as a QB, pass rushers, or left tackles.

Doubtful. I'm not sure a corner has ever been drafted #1. I can't recall any.

Third LSU Heisman winner.
Book it.

Wow! When did they allow the one and done rule in football?

If a team is using the #1 pick on a corner, they be picking 1st again the following year and possibly a new head coach and GM

Comm. Sankey and pals have already chosen Bo Nix as a far more worthy player and human. Perhaps in another life and another conference Stingley would have a chance.
Alas, he plays outside the confines of the State of Alabama.

Spencer Rattler has a good chance. Kayvon Thibodeaux is probably the other big name to watch.
So no, I find it highly unlikely Stingley would be the first pick in the draft.

There has only been one DB ever drafted with the first pick. Gary Glick in 1956 and he was a safety.

Doubt anyone would take a CB at 1, but who knows. At the very least, he’ll be top 5. I’m so pumped to see what he can do at wide receiver.
