You and Nick Saban better pray you beat Miles this year. If LSU wins, Miles will have the lead in the series over Saban despite playing more games in Terdtown. Nick won't handle this well and neither will your goofy fanbase. This is right about the time Nick starts to hate everyone in the program around him.
Get ready because it's coming. Saban will get to deal with the simpleton fanbase like you who still think Miles is "fricking lucky."

I still consider him that
That's your right and it's my right to suggest that you only have to look in a mirror to see the true "idiot" if you think any coach making $4 mil a year, winning 80% of his games, and is beating the best teams/coaches college football has to offer year after year just cause he's lucky.

quote:To answer the original post- yes, I believe he could. That's noting the word "random" in the question, which I would take as just 1 season, with the rest being as they have been. There would be some serious wailing and gnashing of teeth among the fans here, but the guy has 5 ranked seasons out of 6, with 4 finishing in the Top 10. He's shown loyalty by remaining after 2 serious attempts by Michigan to grab him- by which he made it clear himself that he was staying here, not waiting for some outside source to confirm (ie Michigan announcing someone else). Now, he'd have to follow with another big year or he's in trouble.
Could Les Miles survive a random 4-8 season?
For what it's worth, I don't think Les would ever go 4-8 here unless he's just plain tired and has quit. Off-field mess- '05 is as bad as it could get, and he guided the team to 11 wins. On-field mess- '08 was also up there as "worst case scenario", and he was able to get 8 wins out of that season, and he HAS made the corrections necessary- our defense is strong again, and our offense is boring but ain't giving up points anymore. I can't see anything worse than easier of those years happening.

RammerJammer, just heard you won 2 tickets to the Iron Bowl game, better hurry & get em.

That was when Les was squeaky clean. Now after sanctions, this isn't the case anymore.
He still is squeaky clean. NCAA commended him on how handled the issue.

doesnt matter if they did or didn't recommend him the violations would give us an out.
i think he could survive a 4-8 season but it wouldn't be pretty at all.

LSU wouldn't fire him using the violations as an excuse to waive the buyout. I'm not even sure we could tbh. It's been a 2 year on-going process and that ship sailed long ago IMO.

quote:I thought I read that the way it went down kindof protected miles from that clause in his contract. I don't think it reads "if LSU is ever on NCAA sanctions while you are head coach you can be fired w/o lsu being liable for the buyout" I believe it's more along the lines of if he did anything like Tressel where he KNEW but did nothing.

I know his agent disagreed with whatever BOS member said they could fire him with no buyout so it's not guaranteed. definitely would be a legal battle over that issue.

There was just an article how LSU backed into the BCS national title game in 2003.Some times it is better to be lucky.

The term backing in is one of the most overused terms in sports.

No, there way too much money involved in LSU football.

I really don't see how 4-8 is possible. It's really a nutty thread.
The talent level is back after a lull.. especially on the O line.
LSU could still have a 7-5 or maybe a 6-6 season anytime with Jefferson/future inexperience at QB and if a couple of lucky breaks we usually get go the other way.
Les would survive one of those. Not two.

Sure, all we would have to do is watch the replay of last years game when he out coached Saban.

Saban would have a much better chance of surviving 4-8 than miles. hell miles was a "lucky idiot" when he was winnning the national title. if we was 4-8 people would think he was the dumbest coach of all time

Survive 4-8 at Bama? You have got to be kidding. Remember Dubose. He was slapping his secretary and going to the orange bowl and it's ok. The wheels fell off and his arse was gone. And he was one of "Bear's Boys"

Would Saban? GTFO. Go to your own f'ing board and ask why did NS blow a huge lead against Auburn? He got miserably out coached against Auburn, out coached against LSU. So ask dumbass questions about your own program.

Les wouldn't lose his job, but no way would he survive. LSU has way too much talent to have a random 4-8 season.

"Random 4-8" season doesn't really work. If it followed a 9+ win season? Yes, most definitely. If it followed a 7-5 season, then no.
Reality is that it would depend on who the 4 wins came against. For example, next season if he beat Idaho, North Texas, Towson (
) and UW, but lost all his SEC games without a legit reason, like Baton Rouge burning down, he should be fired. If he went 2-6 in the SEC, then no.
Too many variables involved here, but 95%+ chance Les would survive a 4-8 season. The talent on the team could carry itself to 8 wins (see 2008).
