Jimmy Taylor retired as 2nd all-time in rushing TDs behind Jim Brown, was the leading rusher in the NFL in the only year of Jim Brown's career that he didn't lead the league, 6 time all-pro, 3 time NFL champ, 1 time super bowl champ, and is in the Hall of Fame. But, yeah if Domanick Davis had a couple more 1100 yard seasons in 16 games then he'd clearly be the best of all-time.

he only played 40 games to Taylor's 36 his first 3 years.

Taylor didn't explode til his 4th year. We do not know what Davis could have done if he wasn't injured. To say that he couldn't have been better is ludicrous given what he did his first three years.

4400 total yards and 28 TDs in a 3 year span(first 3 years in the league) is elite. You don't think he could have improved on 1466 yards 9 TD a year average after only 3 years in the league?

What happened to DD/DW is common for NFL backs these days. What's their average career span? 2.5 years?

Hope he stayed long enough to get a decent pension, he was awesome at LSU.

Was just arguing with a Michigan fan saying he doesn't see how Fournette would want to go to LSU because we haven't produced any good NFL running backs.

Aside from the fact that is this is false, even if it was true its the dumbest argument ever on multiple levels. Talent first and foremost is what gets guys to the NFL. You also might ask your Michigan guy to check out how B1G RB's have done in the NFL the last 15 years vs SEC backs.

ETA: Davis would have been a beast in Kubiak's offense, shame he got hurt the year before Kubiak was hired.

Like your list. #5 is pretty wide open though.

I think Alley Broussard could have been a good NFL back had he not messed up his knee

Yes and No. Maybe I am remembering wrong, but I recall part of the issue being Alley not handling the adversity of the injury very well, which is what ultimately derailed him. To be fair, not many people have that level of fortitude to keep working when something like that happens. Its not a knock on Alley, its just those people truly separate themselves with their work ethic to be the greats.

Davis would definitely have been in my Top 10. Also a great punt returner.

It must be tough for a Michigan fan to argue RB's with an LSU fan when Anthony Thomas happened and then didn't happen after his rookie year

I wouldn't say he would have been HOF, but I believe he would have clearly been the best NFL RB from LSU during the 2000 - present era.

You can't blame the Michigan fan for being uninformed when it comes to LSU players I guess... but he's saying something that's incredibly stupid.

LSU has been maybe the #1 NFL pipeline school in college over the last ten plus years - including a number of running backs

Jimmy Taylor says hello

Yes he was but Domanick had the potential to be way better.

Well as they say "it is easy to talk the talk, but who can walk the walk." Real simple Jim Taylor did, period end of story!!!

Kevin Faulk is still the best though.

Na. Hilliard and Alexander had better pro careers. Faulk was a situational back in the NFL.

Uh, no. Jim Taylor and Steve Van Buren say otherwise.

If we are talking could have been, then you have to include Billy Cannon. He was a dominating player until injuries slowed him in the old AFL. He had over 2,000 all-purpose yards in 1961 when that was a remarkable feat. He still has the highest single game fantasy football score for any player.
