I don't think anyone does that consciously but I think it happens and it manifests in plate discipline most notably.

I may have over simplified what I was trying to say but I wasn't going to write a novel and I'm not crunching numbers and/or spewing BS based on some analysis nor am I suggesting anything negative about the team.

Some of you guys (not necessarily you Rabbit) seem to have a hard time discussing a topic without first crucifying the OP or speculating as to what their misguided motivation might have been.

Oh i get it. We're supposed to go up 10 runs in the first and increase our lead as the game goes on. Thats a hell of a plan, imo.

Most athletes are too naturally competitive to even unconsciously "take their foot off of the gas".

Especially in an individual event, such as a plate appearance.

Seems to me that when the team scores early they 'take their foot off the gas' and allow the opponent to get some back.

How exactly do you do this in baseball....

To do this, that'd require the pitchers to throw hittable stuff on purpose and batters to just refuse to try to get hits...

You really can't stop trying in baseball. its not like switching from the pass to the run in football to grind out the clock. You either pitch good and bat well or you don't. if you're not batting or pitching well on purpose, thats not taking your foot off of the gas, thats taking the oxygen out of your brain...wtf

Man, you people really have no idea about mental performance cycles ... especially as they exist in baseball.

Key word is MOST

There are athletes who give a lesser effort against lesser opponents or when they have a substantial lead.

However, I would hope that we do not have enough of those types of players on our roster to make our whole team seem lazy or lacking intensity.
