I was curious to see how the offense this year through 3 games matched up with what we did last year over the same time frame. Obviously there's a difference in the quality of opponent but this is strictly a numbers comparison over that stretch.

2011
#3 Oregon: 273 Total Yards, 98 passing, 175 rushing, 22 pass/48 rush 40 points
Northwestern: 400 total yards, 225 passing, 175 rushing, 21 pass/45 rush 49 points
#25 MSU: 361 total yards, 213 passing, 148 rushing, 27 pass/38 rush 19 points

1034 total yards (345 ypg), 536 passing (179 ypg), 498 rushing (166 ypg)
70 pass plays/131 rush = 201 plays
65% run: 35% pass
108 points (36 ppg)

2012:
North Texas: 508 total yards, 192 passing, 316 rushing, 26 pass/46 rush 41 points
Washington: 437 total yards, 195 passing, 242 rushing, 19 pass/52 rush 41 points
Idaho: 472 total yards, 222 passing, 250 rushing, 23 pass/39 rush 63 points

1417 total yards (472 ypg), 609 passing (203 ypg), 808 rushing (269 ypg)
68 pass plays/137 rush= 205 plays
67% run: 33% pass
145 points (48ppg)

Total Yards
2012: +383

Yards Per Game
2012: +127

Passing
2012: +73

Pass YPG
2012: +24

Rushing

The run/pass ratios are of course much lower considering the quality (or lack of) and how quickly we scored and shut down the offense. Mett threw just 4 times in the 2nd half of Washington.

That playcalling balance is ugly right now but that should get a little closer when were not strictly run plays by the 4th quarter.

Overall Offensively we are better this year.

But theres a few things to note when comparing..

LSU 2011
Oregon at a neutral site
Northwestern at home
Mississippi State on the road and wasn't it on a Thursday?

LSU 2012
North Texas at home, will say no practice before the week
Washington at home
Idaho at home

That 2011 schedule was incredible. Game 4 last year, LSU was going on the road for a tough game at West Virginia. Their 3rd tough game away from home in 4 weeks.

This year in game 4, the team is just now getting their first test (even though Auburn isn't so good) and just now heading on the road.

I think you will see lsu pound the ball on the ground until they can't. And when they are able to stop the run ( which hasn't happened sofar ) lsu will air the ball out.

Just a wild guess and can't seem to grasp this comparison.
