Compare what Saban inherited in 00 to what BK inherited, reasonable expectations?

How much patience do we have? I asked Moscona and T-Bob this yesterday and Moscona did say "the 2000 season is very comparable to this one. However, it doesn't matter what expectations are because Kelly is here to stay because he has a ten year contract."
I disagree somewhat to that.

Saban lost 12 games in his 1st 3 years. Do we have the patience for this anymore?

Oh how times have changed, Curley lost 21 games in his 1st 3 seasons and we let him comeback for a 4th.

LSU did everything on the cheap when Joe Dean was at the helm.

Saban didn’t inherit a team with 38 scholarships players and a WR playing QB in the final game of the previous season.

Saban inherited a team that won its final game the previous season against a decent Arkansas team.

We are married to Kelly for a long time. Give the man thru Year 2 and let's take a look at the trajectory then.

Saban had a better roster, because they didn’t leave in mass droves.

Saban didn't have access to the portal. Heupel is a better bar for expectations. He took over a Tenn train wreck and has them looking solid in his 2nd season.

100% inherited a team with a much better O-Line and running backs.

Well Coach, you just can’t look at the talent level they inherited. You must also look at the SEC and the SEC West in particular.

The conference and division are much stronger today than 2000.

Yeah it's a long play but BK this team is not improving at all.

Against teams that have a pulse:

Sloppy play every week. Fall behind fast every week. Special teams terrible every week. QB play quite poor overall yet them acting like it's working.

Saban won 10 in Y2 and would have likely kept the momentum going had he had a QB in Y3.

So yea I think it is similar. QB is such an important part of team success. And almost equally important is moving on from Dumbrock

Y3 is when Mauck broke his foot? Is that the year we kicked the safety off the team for stealing his gf's purse in the quad? I remember our defense went to shite after that.

Complete wash in 2022 and just going 6/6 with a bowl is an accomplishment.

Look for more turmoil with players leaving and could see us signing 35-40 players, tons more of 2-3 star portal transfers that really are just bodies.

Some coaches probably should never have been allowed to walk on the campus to begin with doubt anything significant changes. Hard headed and Nepotism again.

2023 - maybe another win or so depending on if the Daniels experiment continues

2024 - hopefully, Howard is still here and healthy and we get back to double digit wins.

Neither did Kelly. Saban also didn’t have the transfer portal either. The program he inherited was 7-15 in the 2 years prior and had won a grand total of 3 SEC games over that period. (LSU had 3 SEC wins just last season) The program itself had just 3 winning seasons in the previous 11 seasons. LSU had been largely an afterthought in CFB for a decade and the financial dedication to the program was non-existent. There was no LSU “brand” outside of Louisiana. And attending many games in the 90’s there was barely one IN Louisiana.

That’s not to say Kelly doesn’t have some rebuilding to do. But it is reasonable to criticize when the special teams look like a fourth grade level group and he hires a OC NO ONE outside of the AAC wants who comes in and turns guys who were tremendous contributors last season (notably, Boutte and Bech) into complete non-factors

Saban was also much earlier in his career back then than Kelly is now. Not a fair comparison.

I'm still hopeful that Kelly will turn out to be a home run hire, but I think many of his decisions yesterday were poor. It's not hindsight if you disagree with the decision at the time and it turns out poorly as you thought it would. Hopefully, he still has at least a little room left to learn and improve.

LSU fans wanted to run Saban off many times in his 1st
year.Peoples emoyions take over when it comes to their
fandom.Every move BK makes is going to be rideculed from
now on.As fans we believe every time LSU goes on the field
we should be a experenced and well oiled machine. When in
fact we have a coach who took over a SEC program with 35
scholaship players who could play in the bowl game.
Do I tkink we don`t `look well coached at times, yes but
its 6 games into a total rebuild not only with roster,
also culture ,phylosophy, trainig rutine and discipline.
Many people want to blame BK because he makes 10 mil a
year and should walk on water.I can garuntee you NS
would be having trouble this year. Alot of you are the
same people who wanted NS gone after the UAB game.
