Coach Wade has done more for this program than Coach O did in his first full year in charge and I dare anyone to argue that.

To be fair, Ogeron wasn't starting near the bottom like Wade was. Apathy had set in with the basketball program and ANY improvement would have been a welcomed site. Ogeron took over a good program that was looking to become great. Wade had a LOT more rope to work with as the expectations for his first season were FAR lower than Ogeron's

quote:

Coach Wade is one of the best hires (on paper) in LSU sports history alongside Saban IMO. His work ethic has been on display day in and day out. He is building a culture based on accountability and not individuality like we saw during the Johnny Jones era. With his energy and passion, he will not let players dick off and be selfish. I love it.

I think Wade can be great here. But let's hold off on the hyperbolic praise and unreasonable expectations just for a second. Remember, Jones came in here in year 1 and took a program that has 3 straight losing conference seasons and got them to 9-9 in SEC play AND had a great first full recruiting class (Mickey/Martin/Quarterman). Now I don't think there is any comparison between Wade and Jones in terms of their approach, but there were countless "LSU basketball is BACK!" after Jones' first year. Let's just see what happens next season before we anoint Wade as one of the greatest hires in LSU history.

I think he is on pace to have a great career. But the SEC has stepped its game up over the past few years. The Rick Ray's, Darren Horne's, Kim Anderson's and Johnny Jones' of the world are gone. Everyone has a good coach with some skins on the wall. There are no more easy passes which makes the league great, but rough.

I’m glad the league finally has good coaches. The perception of the SEC being a top-flight league only helps our chances to make the tournament in the future if we’re on the bubble.

And HOLY SHIZ I completely forgot about Bigby Williams. We’re going to wreck shop next year.

We’re probably in the NCAAT this year if Bigby-Williams was able to play. The presence in the lane would’ve given us 3-4 more wins.

Losing Epps will not hurt even a little.

Having Sampson back will not help at all.

Sampson has really disappointed this year. He had a real chance to show why he was Mr. Basketball in LA. I know the injury tripped him up at first, but he never even got close to showing his potential.

Would be nice if Sampson could at least use his athleticism and step up his defensive game, but we have Edwards coming back for that.

Who all did Sampson beat out for Mr. Basketball in LA?

Not exactly sure who he beat out, but after seeing him in college, it couldn’t have been anyone worth a damn.

the one thing i hope to see wade improve on, hopefully dramatically, is the road effort. we were just atrocious on the road pretty much all season.

i was disappointed that when the tigers had something huge on the line, ncaa tourney, they were horrific at uga and scar. then again at utah to keep the season alive. i was hoping wade could motivate them to rise to the occasion.

i hope sampson can be the force he has the potential to be. he's got the athleticism and there's just no reason why he can't be a star in this league. i want to see ull sampson most every night.

otherwise, wade was amazing. he made lemonade out of lemons and significantly exceeded expectations imo. i think he's as good as anybody in the league, minus the experience that cal has. his postgame interviews are interesting, especially talking strategy with brady. he admits he makes mistakes, that he's not perfect but, more often than not, his hunches pay off. so, he not only knows the x's and o's but he also has an intuition for the game.

Yep, really pretty simple actually. Tripled number of SEC wins; had a winning season and earned post-season bid; top 5 incoming recruiting class. The future is bright.

That’s got a lot to do with personnel. It’s hard enough to win on the road with really good players, let alone win with the guys he was left with from Johnny. If there isn’t an improvement next season, then we’ll have a problem.

Jacob Evans and Melvin Frazier. Evans starts for Cincy and Frazier averages 16/gm at Tulane.

Last night sucked but i had FUN watching this team. Honestly haven’t had that much fun since the 08-09 team.

This.

Even Jones' best teams were a pain in the arse to watch.

Many more fun times on the horizon

I am guessing the 2 downvotes in the OP are from the ULL maggots who haven't left from last week and continue trolling the board.

The NCAA Selection Committee ranks a Top 30 Home win as equivalent to a Top 75 Road win.
That tells you a lot.

When going through the bracket to pick my teams, you see a lot of really good teams lose on the road. Especially this year, with so many Top 10 teams losing to unranked teams.
So, I'm not going to be rough on WW because of his road record.

Also:.... check out the "We went 0-3 vs LSU" Sweet 16 matchup. Michigan vs aTm.

A more accurate assessment than "he's the greatest" is that Wade had a great first year. I think almost everyone would agree with that.

Whenever I see in game coaching issues, he seems to fix them. He sometimes gets overexcited, but the fans seem to like that style.

I give him an A in recruiting and a C+ in coaching.

If LSU plays at the level they should next year (and I'm not talking about a Final Four appearance or some of the other unreasonable expectations some spew forth), he'll be a solid A coach.

June 5, 2017: Will Wade lands 4-star PG Tremont Waters

Probably the most important thing he's done so far. Yeah the signing class for next year is amazing, but having a seasoned PG to lead those talented youngsters will be YUUUUUGE

definitely wouldn't have sniffed 8 wins in conference wins without Tremont. that's for sure.
