#LSU Coach Paul Mainieri: Pitching staff this year will need to lead the way and I think it will.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: At the end of the year I thought we were playing as good as anybody in the country.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: How we ended the season has given us lot of confidence going into this season. Everyone will contribute.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: I've made bold comments about our pitching and the boldness is well-placed.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Kevin Gausman is draft eligible and has a chance to be a very high draft choice.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Our main focus has been to shore up bullpen and you do that with depth.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: With Eads and McCune, I wouldn't trade our rotation for any other in the country.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Nick Rumbelow has come on strong. Threw ball well in the summer and his confidence has gone through roof.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Our kids couldn't hit him (Rumbelow) in the fall. Aaron Nola is a strike-throwing machine.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Nick Goody excelled as a closer in summer, but didn't pitch as well as he heoped in the fall.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: LHP Cody Glenn has world of potential. Like to make him a full time midweek starter.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: A lot will be made of Alan Dunn's influence. Hope it will be the same as John Chavis on FB teams defense.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Need improvement from catching play. I do think we will get improvement out of Tyler Ross.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Ross will be a force for us offensively before his career is over here.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Tyler Hanover and Austin Nola are two of my favorite players of all time. Great kids, poster kids for us.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: JaCoby Jones is best athlete outside of Mahtook, that's why he's moving to CF.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Casey Yocom will take over at 2B for Jones, played fantastic in the fall. He batted over .400.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Jones will cover a lot of ground with long legs and long strides. He was a DB in high school.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: This lineup will be very hardnosed, tough out hitters. Line drive hitters, good baserunners.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Raph Rymes our DH needed Tommy John surgery. Still trying to figure that one out.

#LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri: Jackson Slaid made big jump of improvement. He seems to put barrell of the bat on the ball consistently.

more coming in......

well there is our starting rotation, there was speculation one of them could get bumped out due to younger guys. Gusaman, Eades, Mccune

I think we will see a lot of low scoring, close games, that we can win with good pitching and playing scrappy. Every game will go down to the wire, but it will make for an exciting season. I can't wait to see this pitching staff in action.

he also mentioned they were not fast but smart base runners, I assume that translates into very little bunting if any.

Hit .340 in his summer league and kept hitting during fall ball.

Anyone else worried about Raph being out of the line up? I wasn't aware he needed surgery.

I vaguely remember hearing about it, but I didn't think it was this serious. If he isn't healthy, I don't know what it would do to the lineup but I would imagine defensively that Katz would play RF and Moore would play 1b.

I thought Moore would have gotten the 1b job anyway, with Katz in RF and Rhymes/Fields/etc in left

I don't think there is a better bat on the team than Raph. That is what worries me. He is so damn consistent. I know we are talented and everything, but thats a HUGE hit to our line up.

edit: PM's line up has Raph in it, so I guess it can't be too bad.

He's definitely a key guy to have in there. I'm curious to see how Hanover does leading off.

Yeah the way Mainieri sounded today, seems like he will be good to go

I recall Hanover struggling in the lead off spot. I could be wrong, but I remember a tiime last year and I think he was leading off. Hopefully he has improved and will become a solid leadoff guy for us. He definately has the potential to be solid.

Ok. I think we all know we should have one of the best bullpens in the SEC. How about some hitting this year? Because pitching wasn't exactly the big problem.

Can't believe PM kept Javi...huge mistake, IMO.

We do have Rhymes, Katts, and Jones. All three hitters are damn good. Hopefully runners get in place and these guys can knock them in.
