What do you guys think O meant when he said this is his favorite freshman class ever?
This 2017 LSU class... Hands down!!
We have our future QB
3 Bad arse OL who are doing a lot of good
CEH running crazy... etc... for other contributors
But now we go to the DEF bad asses
The first 6 will be (correction...ARE) studs!!
NG Shelvin- when he comes
OL K'Lavon- Beast (Next better than Key!)
S Delpit- Starter
S Todd Harris- Could be starter
NB Kary Vincent- Starter at NB
MLB Jacob Phillips- probably better than D Alexander
Got Farrell and Thomas who will be some great DE

I followed recruiting closely since 2010. This class imo rankings aside is maybe the best I've seen. They really pass the eye test. Just about every one of them look game ready. I think it's gonna be a special group.

I think it means this is coach o's favorite freshman class ever, lol. So far, at least. He obviously likes the talent that he hauled in, but I believe it's how they are meshing with the team so quickly and learning so fast. This freshman class has alot of early contributors, get to know their names, bc alot of them will be on the field this season early and often, if not in starting roles, they will be playing a whole hell of alot. We have a shitload of talent in this class, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Good Lord, this class is flat-out loaded, I knew it on signing day but it's just now hitting me how good they're going to be for us. Then add to that clyde edwards-helaire, myles brennan, austin deculus, ed ingram, thaddeus moss (eligible next year), jonathan giles (eligible next year), and jacoby stevens on the offensive side, and you have a solid group of contibutors from day 1 that are simply too talented to keep off of the field. I think he sees the potential of the kids he signed already and is trying to figure out a way to get them all on the field to contribute in some form or fashion immediately. It was an awesome class.

This will end up being the best defensive class we have had in quite some time.
If Aranda stays and shelvin is cleared we very well could field a top 5 defense next year .
Just imagine shelvin/ big ed at nose
Rashard/Neil at each end plus fieko Logan etc
Chaisson Thornton White Phillips Taylor Queen Anthony Martin , etc
We know the back end is stacked for years to come . Aranda is about the re write the record books when it comes to getting to the QB.
Not to mention brennan and Canada could completely change the offensive culture of our team , we could be prolific in the next couple years .

Well, he's trying to be a good leader. They're going to have to step up and contribute - and in the trenches, too, which is tough for freshmen. There does seem to be a little higher "character" average for this group which may be driving this - a lot more leaders arriving on campus.
Great early reports about Brennan, Deculus, CEH (before he got nicked), Stevens, Chaisson, Delpit, Charles, Ingram, Vincent, Phillips - I mean, the splash this class has made this early (I know we haven't played a game, I'm tapping the brakes) is certainly cause for a significant amount of optimism about them.

Here's your answer:

quote:
“Some people can just pass rush naturally,” Gilmore said. “Like Chaisson, No. 4. That’s natural. But some people actually have to learn how to pass rush. Pass rush is a different art, away from football almost. Third down and long, you have to turn your mindset to something different.”
Chaisson is one of the headliners of an LSU freshman class Gilmore described as the quickest learning class he’s encountered in his five years in Baton Rouge. From Chaisson on the edge to Jacob Phillips at inside linebacker to Grant Delpit and Todd Harris at safety and Kary Vincent and Jontre Kirklin at cornerback, the Tigers defense is stacked with freshmen ready to contribute.
Which Gilmore said isn’t coach speak.
“I think a lot of freshmen come in and think ‘Oh, I have four years,'” Gilmore said. “These freshmen, they came in ready to play.”
quote:
Battle attributes Delpit’s success to his instincts, a football skill he seemingly already fully developed.
“He’s got a knack for going to the ball,” Battle said. “High motor guy. He’s always flying around. He’s still trying to learn the system, but he’s doing it 110 percent running full speed. It’s just cool to see him going full speed like that.”
quote:
Given the way the trio of Ed Ingram, Saahdiq Charles and Austin Deculus filled in for Malone, Clapp and Weathersby, Clapp couldn’t help but echo the same refrain Gilmore did.
“Quick learners, very quick learners,” Clapp said about LSU’s freshman class. “When the freshmen come in, they get tossed in the fire. They either rise to it or they crumble. And these guys, they ran ones for a week straight and they didn’t crumble at all. They’re making these reps count.”

While this could well be a really well-constructed PR ploy on the part of CEO (doubtful)
Doubtful? Lol. His first hire when he took over for Les was Pete Jenkins for the DL. His second hire was Derek Ponamsky, a fricking BR radio host. This hire was to control the narrative in the local media, so that only what O wants put out is put out, and to keep everything positive.
