Coach O claimed Giles is due for a big game ...

Love to see what happens in practice but he's shown no flash on Saturdays
Also t. moore is expected to play...sure it goes back the lack of pressure with 4 defensive players - hope i lot helps. Getting pressure w only 4 is the key for this defense being great vs good .
***reading quotes again - Wonder if 7 is benched already and he's being told to keep head up .
- lack of pressure w 4 is a bigger story imv

Giles is long overdue to ride the pine, he cant make plays
Them forcing him the ball once in that ole miss game on the quick screen pass again proved to me he just cant make a play at this level. He got a block and the guy still ran him down quickly.

He looks like he’s running in cement shoes the majority of the time.

Has Giles talent gone down that much?
Or does this prove just how f’ing bad the big 12 defenses are?

Partially this. They stink

I think this was a subtle hint to Giles that if he doesn't step it up he's going to be riding the bench. Because he didn't say he was due for a breakout game, he said he hopes he can have a breakthrough soon and show some of the things he did when he was on the scout team red shirting. That seems like a either step it up soon or sit down situation.

Hate saying anything negative about players, but Chase and Marshall need to get Giles’ routes.

Not at all.

Mostly this. They play zone in the Big 12, A LOT of zone. They simply just don't have much talent on defense in the secondaries overall. The Big 12 had just 3 DBs taken in the draft earlier this year, all in the 5th and 6th rounds. By comparison the SEC had 8 taken...BEFORE the first Big 12 DB was taken. It's clear he made a living finding holes in zone defenses over there, and now he's getting manned up each week and cant get any separation.
Again that screen play against Ole Miss was just baffling, he gets a chip block and the guy still somehow managed to tackle him for practically no gain. He might look "smooth" running the ball but he's so damn slow.

Big 12 Defences are terrible. With the exception of Oklahoma the whole damn conference is terrible. How many times have we just smoked a big 12 opponent. Tech, TCU, Sooners, ATM (with Von Miller). Pretty sure we haven’t lost to big12 since Roy Williams brought Texas back in the cotton

I really liked Jack Hunt as a player, and appreciate him catching the Bluegrass Miracle, but if Saban had ANYONE other than Hunt to account for Roy Williams in that game, LSU wins. Williams straight up abused him.

I get the narrative of Giles not being good, but Dee Anderson missed his block so insanely bad and the guy got him at his feet, it’s not like he could juke him. That was not remotely on him, and Dee barely played the rest of the game.
By the time Giles catches the ball, the OM defender is around Dee running at Giles. He would have to have an insane acceleration to get out of there

There's your answer right there. No need to read further. Spot on analysis my friend.

You expect elite WR's to make a guy miss when he has a step on him in the first place. Giles seems like a good dude, but I have been frustrated with his inability to, one catch the ball, and two make someone miss with YAC on the rare opportunity he does catch the ball.

It wasn't a perfect block by any means, but it was absolutely more than enough to spring him. That's all the block (chip) you really SHOULD need on those plays. You shouldn't have to pancake the DB for him to catch and go, just get the chip to put him behind you a few yards, but the guy instantly caught up to him still for the tackle despite the space created.

FWIW Giles tweeted yesterday saying:
“Getting back to myself again”
Perhaps he’s had a nagging injury that wasn’t disclosed and he’s feeling better, Or it’s about something completely irrelevant to football.

If he had an injury that has been affecting him this much, he shouldn't have been playing.
