I'm not saying fire the dude. Move him to a position he can coach better and has more expertise. I'm not entirely sure they could do this without firing someone though. Hes not a complete moron, the guy was a HC. But pitching coach just doesn't fit the guy, IMO. I think PM owes it to his players to do this. The guy who posted the story about Ott makes me question Grewe even further.
While we're on this subject, I'm not big fan of Sanchez either. He is young, so its a little different, IMO.

teams hadn't "figured out" Matty Ott yet.
I've seen this thrown around a lot recently. What exactly did they figure out? Is that when Ott leaves the ball up in the zone, it's easy to hit 450 feet? Ott's problems this year had nothing to do with being figured out. They had to do with him throwing bad pitches. He looked really good yesterday because all of his pitches were sinking below the knees.

..FIRE ALL COACHES ALL SPORTS EVERY YEAR! KEEP THE ROTATION GOING!

I of course am not in the dugout but he didn't seem to be a very proactive pitching coach.
He seemed helpless to do anything to stop the bleeding during the pitching slump.
There has to be some tweaking done and Grewe should be the one tweaked.
We need a real pitching coach who can adjust mechanics, get inside pitchers' heads and be a psychologist and motivator, etc.
PM needs to forget about Grewe being his buddy (if that plays a part) and jettison him.
I'd jettison Lopez (Sanchez) and move Grewe to take over his resposibilities, then go hire a kick arse pitching coach.
Seriously doubt that happens because PM seems to be one those coaches ingrained in the good ole boy "I only hire, but will not fire my buddies" network. Sound familiar?.........

I'm in favor of replacing him.

That doesnt sound half bad.. Grewe is a hitting coach first. (He made Sanchez a player)
He has zero business being a pitching coach and is really a fish out of water doing that.
I have zero hope is LSU pitching improving unless we inject this team with some stud pitchers. The players on the roster are on their own in improving. Unless Grewe brings in some talent to help them he certainly isnt going to develop them.

The pitching has been terrible, but it is hard to say whether or not the pitching coach is the difference. I just don't see a lot of talent coming out of the bullpen. I mean, does a pitching coach get credit for Chad Jones' success last year? Or was he just that talented to get out there and chuck it?

What do you do if you are Bedrosian or Gausman?
You probably sign and take the money while it is available like just about everyone in their position will do. The chances of them getting injured and hurting their stock are just as good as them improving it enough to make it worth their while. For guys that are going to be picked that high the risk isn't worth the reward. It has very little to do with any situation at LSU.
quote:
The only reason you would not sign is to play in college and to get better. Is that going to happen here?
As I stated above, those guys are going to be picked so high it isn't an automatic that they could greatly improve their position regardless of the pitching coach.

What pitcher actually improved from where he was before this year started to the end?
Why just this year? Ranaudo greatly improved as a pitcher and improved his draft stock during his time at LSU. He improved by 10 rounds and probably increased his signing bonus by at least 750k. Alsup has improved from last year to this one. Bradshaw took a step back, but after taking a big step forward last year under the same coach. Ross hasn't been the same since moving to the rotation as a sophomore/junior, he hasn't been as good as he was out of the pen as a freshman.
quote:
How about Joey B.. or Matulis?
First off, their time isn't up yet. Matulis still had many of the same issues he had last year. He was a 47th round pick out of high school. Let's see where he is at this time next year. I didn't see Bourgeois pitch any last year so I don't know if he improved or took a step back, but his numbers weren't spectacular against weak division juco competition. He was a 39th round pick last year, let's see where he is at this time next year.
quote:
Grewe staying not only hurts current pitchers but runs off potential ones.
And you are basing this on what? Are you telling me that signees like McCune, Hopkins, or any other mid-late round picks aren't going to come here because they won't improve? Or are you foolishly basing this on the two guys that are going to go in the top 2-3 rounds and were an extreme longshot to ever make it here to begin with?
quote:
Hire someone who actually can coach pitchers, with experience doing so. Grewe is a head coach in training,, LSU had the 3rd best staff this weekend,,
I can see your point here. We definitely had some problems in the last third of the season. How much of that was Grewe's fault? I have no idea, but it is definitely a situation that Mainieri needs to look at. However, I do not agree that the situation is so bad that it is scaring off players or that pitchers can not, and have not, improved under him.

I am sorry but I never heard of Kirk Bullinger. what experience does he have?

I'm asking the same questions. That's why I put that in quotes.
