The guy that made the shot was a white dude named Dan Federman.

There was a big high school game later that night in the PMAC involving Carroll High and Benoit Benjamin and they had trouble getting the students to leave due to the frickery. They were chanting "hell no, we won't go"

But Tennessee coach Don DeVoe was no idiot. He told his team to not even shower and they packed their shite and hauled arse to the airport.

I was there.
We (? D Taylor) tipped the inbound pass and the clock didn’t start until the TN guy caught the deflected pass.

Yes, it was on an offensive rebound and put back basket. Time should have expired when the Vols missed the first shot.

This loss derailed one of Dales' best coaching jobs. After losing Rudy, Cookie Mam , Ethan and the best 6th man in all of college basketball Willie Sims off of a Final Four team he had the Tigers tied for first in the SEC at 10-3 with two weeks left. This loss sent the Tigers into a tail spin and they lost 3 of the next 4 games to finish in the middle of the league. This late skid cost an NCAA bid.

Are you thinking about what Dale asked Billy Reed of the Louisville paper after a Kentucky game in '78?

I believe it had something to do with a comment from Devoe that pissed off Dale.

There was never a doubt the clock started about two seconds late. The officials confirmed it. LSU appealed to the SEC office and the league had to confirm the error, but still refused to overturn the win for Tennessee.

Exactly how it went down.

Our clock operator was asleep at the switch.
