Austin Ross was not bad at all as a third starter.

If you put it that way, Ryan Eades also wasn't bad as a third starter.

Regardless, saying someone wasn't bad isn't a sign of any confidence in a pitcher.

To win in postseason play, you need two great starters, a good bullpen, and clutch hitting. That's the formula for regionals, supers, and the CWS.

Unfortunately we had 2 of the 3 at most against SB and they had 3 of 3 and even more if that is actually possible.

While this is a true statement, Ross's performances in the postseason was better than Eades's.

Mainieri is having them try him out as a starter over the summer
So college coaches dictate what these leagues do with their players? I am not familiar with these summer leagues.

If you were CPM would you want some random coach using your pitcher at his discretion?

To a large degree, yes. If a summer team wants to keep getting good players from a particular school, they are going to work with the coach. That's not to say that the summer team has no say or cannot do what they need to to win, but they often try and listen to what the college coaches want their players to work on.

Pretty much every pitcher that pitches in college was a starter in HS though.

Does someone have a link to the summer leagues so we can follow the LSU players in summer league?

What happened to Kurt McCune? Did he just fall of the face of the earth. I know he did not perform as expected this year, but he was our Friday night starter last year.

Every single pithier we have and have had started in high school. We aren't going to take a guy who threw 15-20 innings a year in high school

The Cune got blown up his first start at the Cape earlier this week. Really sucks IMO... the kid was pretty studly early his freshman year. Hope Dunn can work with him so he can provide useful service in the BP in the next two years.

He seems to have lost most of the movement on any of his pitches.

This pretty much. Got absolutely destroyed in his first summer start too.

Thanks. Hope you are right about Dunn helping him.

my biggest question with cotton as a starter is how he'd fair his 2nd or 3rd times through the order. guess he'll prove that this summer

Looks like it could also help him build up stamina to be a long reliever (beyond 2 IP) should a starter struggle one weekend.

Yeah. You could see that when he pitched this season. Straight at 90-92 will get crushed.
