It seemed like every play there was at least one guy with his hands up in the "what the hell am I supposed to do" position.
remember when Jack Hunt made sure everyone knew there defensive assignments? He always made sure that everyone was in there correct position....
ahhh those were the days

if one or two players doesn't know what to do its their fault.
if MOST of the players don't know what to do its the coaches' fault.
if the one or two players who don't know what to do are still on the field at the end of the season and still don't know what to do its the coaches' fault for not putting someone on the field who knew what the hell was going on.

Bingo!
Its hard for me to believe that the majority of the defense was not "Fooftball Smart".

It could be partly the players for not understanding. But that's when you have to bring the game down to the players' level. Too many coaches try to over complicate things I'm sure
Very well said. The KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach is pertinent to all levels of sports. If your guys can't grasp the concept then you need to simplify things... The majority of the big places LSU gave up was the result of blown assignments.

If the whole class fails, then it's probably more on the teacher.

I know things....that have been told to me from pretty reliable sources....LOL
I don't give a damn what things you know or who your sources are. When you put a guy that runs 4.6 or slower on the other teams fastest player that's not the players fault! It was stupid not to put CBs in on these plays. The whole scheme was going down hill when Pelini was here, then when you get two guys trying to run it it got totally fricked up.
The lack of punishment for doing stupid things in the game was the coaches fault not the players. If you've ever led men you would know in order to have a great team you can not let anyone slack. You have to have discipline!
Now we will have one man in charge and he has a track record of fielding very good defenses. Tenn has not had discipline problems on the defensive side of the ball.
