Yep NCAA to discuss LSU decisions today. I believe it is the Hicks issue but we are allowed to ask questions so I assume everyone will want to know Lyles issue. I will attempt to record the entire conference and post it here.

You would think anytime a coach is involved in deliberate NCAA infractions that the violations would be considered major. About the only thing the NCAA can criticize LSU for would be not immediately firing McCarthy and declaring Hicks ineligible when they became aware of the infractions. However, there must be some reasonable allowance of time for LSU to perform due process to establish the authenticity of the infractions.
So any penalties the NCAA imposes in excess of those self-imposed by LSU would be reflective of the seriousness with which the NCAA views the infractions. From the perspective of Ohio State any additional penalties imposed on LSU must be pretty frightening. The LSU infractions were committed by an assistant coach, and LSU did not gain a competitive advantage from playing ineligible athletes. Ohio State's violations involve the head coach concealing infractions and using ineligible athletes that resulted in actual competitive advantage. The penalties Ohio State has proposed for itself are kind of lax compared to those LSU actually implemented upon itself.

Like I said, I think LSU's compliance office handled it the right way and the NCAA won't tack on anything major. A year or two of probation is most likely. Don't forget that during the investigation it was also discovered the the Athletic Department had made a few thousand impermissible phone calls. Those may be secondaries though with a small slap on the wrist as well.

So, is this a call with the media? I was under the impression it was between LSU and the NCAA. Does this mean that LSU already has a ruling in hand from the NCAA?

imo no one in the media has a clue what this will be about as far as what violations we get or if they accept the self imposed penalty,

If it were to be bad news I bet it would be a press conference and not just a conference call

If anything was going to come of this, they'd inform LSU ahead of time and it would've leaked by now. Nothing to see here, moving along now.

I feel we as LSU fans etc have a right to know about the current gag order, an official statement from either LSU or the NCAA is needed. In trying to talk to both yesterday was given no comments from both parties.
