ok, this should end the argument: if there is helmet to helmet in which the helmet comes off then the receiver's helmet would have (by the rules of inertia) been redirected in the direction of the safeties route, but when you watch the video the helmet comes off and continues going the direction of the receiver's route because his chin snaps were not buckled. if that's not enough, watch the video AGAIN and notice that you can only see one helmet when the two collide meaning one is behind the other.

How am I crying.

Ya'll are the ones crying about a penalty when you WON the game.

I give LSU props for winning they did what they needed to and Arkansas didn't.

I just don't have a problem with the NCAA and officials trying to protect OUR players.

this has nothing to do with his helmet flying off.

At all. Not sure why you think it dos.

obviously you do not know what "defenseless" means

How is a player defenseless when he has the ball falling down after a catch?

because if he was hit directly on the helmet it would have flown backward, not forward.

Nah usually the effect is a missed tackle and the player bouncing off..

you really think he was trying to tackle him???

he was trying to jar the ball loose.

leading with the shoulder, or bracing with the arms against the chest has the same end result.

You dont loose any momentum that way.

I enjoyed the play a whole lot.

but I also know why there was a flag.

From NCAA rule book:

quote:

The following are situations in which defenseless players are susceptible to
serious injury:

• The pass receiver whose concentration is on the ball

Are you kidding me? Interpret that for me. I guess every player that catches a pass is a defenseless player..

his helmet doesn't have to fly off simply because Chad Jones hit it.

per the rules--if the blow was directed toward's his helmet--possibly. It is a ref's judgement call.

but it did fly off. Let's deal with what actually happened. And if he had been hit directly on the helmet there is no way it would fly off in the opposite direction. At best it would have flown straight up and back. clean, hard, great hit.

are you listening to yourself?! it's the direction of the helmet that matters in this situation not who hit the receiver. read this carefully: if CJ makes contact with UA's helmet it would NOT continue going in the direction of the receiver's route. it would either stay on his head or go the opposite direction. it's really not a hard concept.
