I would like those of you who remember him as a player to give me your thoughts of him. I was a little kid when he played in the 1996 era. However,i heard him on 1210am in Baton Rouge this morning and wanted to ask the rant because from the interview he sounded legit.

Good player with decent power. If not for his controversial dropped catch in left field in the '96 CWS title game, no Warren Morris heroics. We have him to thank for that.

I will always remember him for this or maybe for how juiced up he looked.

Went to the same highschool with Cooley and he was one hell of a running back. Went to LSU and blew the frick up on the juice.

Cooley was legendary, especially his after hour hijinks on road trips.

Someone fill me in on Cooley he came to LSU after being drafted in the 8th round (238) by the Twins as a SS out of high school, so did he not pan out as an infielder? I know we had JWilliams during that span, but did Chad even get drafted again?

I'll never forget in the stands when he ran into left field all you heard was "Coooooo".

How can people just post things like this without any type of repercussions? I'm not saying that it didn't happen, but posters should not single out players without any link or validation to support their claims. If you want to make generalizations of the teams of that era fine--but don't single out players.

I agree with this, and I know your not responding to me cause all I said was he "looked" all juiced up, which most would agree he did.

College Baseball had a steroid problem too - not as bad as MLB but they were in the college game.
There were some at LSU as well as every major program including Tulane. Not all LSU players were on them. I'm not going to sit here and speculate but some were pretty obvious.

The biggest one I remember was Bret Boone for USC in that 1990 regional - everything he hit was a HR or at the wall.

I think its a much cleaner game today and it wasn't just the bats that changed.

Steroids had little to do with the power numbers in the 90's. Alloy bats with a -10 to -13 drop, length to weight, allowed 200 pound men to swing a 24 ounce bat with a 3 3/4 inch diameter head. Also, the balls had a harder core, were spun tighter with smaller stitching which allowed for greater transference of power from the bat to the ball. Faster bat speed, harder baseball and pitchers limited to throwing fast balls resulted in the huge numbers. Once the equipment rules changed we saw a huge drop off in the power numebrs. Yet, steroid testing didn't come into effect for several years following.

Just as in the majors, the only benefit to using steroids for baseball players is to enhance the recovery time from injuries. People (fans and sportswriters) that want to cry foul over the use of legal sports enhancement drugs need to look at the root of the problem. The constant whining and bellyaching from "fans" and the scrutiny of sportswriters who were never good enough to play the game force many players to risk their own health to satisfied those who will never be satisfied.

Good but not great and sturdy. A hybrid of Rich Cordani and Mike Neal.

they never used -10 to -13 once bats was -4 they went to -3 once bats and lessened the trampoline effect on bats and not really because of anything to do with homeruns they did this because of the dangers that the bats caused for the pitchers
