CFB Playoffs
Posted by Westbank Hank on 7/13/18 at 4:16 pm15
Do you think 4 teams is enough for the playoffs? Should it be 8 teams or leave it at 4? Do you think it will ever be extended?

8
5 conference champs
3 at large
Use the same rules as the BCS games when there were 4

It needs to be expanded to 8, IMO. All power 5 conference champs qualify and then 3 wild cards, let them be mid-majors or whoever.
Only problem is, the last team left out will always have a cry session about being “left out.” Happens every year with the NCAA basketball tournament and that has a field of 64...so, there’s that.

I just think people who think the Committee with essentially no mandatory criteria other than the eye test is better than how the BCS evaluated teams are fools.

8 and top 4 seeds host home games.
There really is no other practical way to do it, scheduling-wise.

I agree with Top4 hosting a game. Expanding the playoff would also mean cutting down on the number of bowl games... need to up the win total to 7 to qualify for the bowl games and be stringent on that.
Can’t allow any more 5-7 teams go go bowling.

Like others are saying - go with the top 8 - 5 being the conference champs.
Would make the the whole season that much more exciting knowing that 8 teams have a chance. And the conference games would mean that much more. Would be awesome.

I think 8 is perfect. No more, no less.
I think 4 is incredibly stupid.

4 is fine..............but if you cant win your own freaking DIVISION........how the hell should you be allowed to play for the championship???
Put some common sense in the committee!!

I have always said 12 is the perfect number, with top 4 teams getting byes (that would keep the incentive to finish top 4). Also, top seed in each game gets homefield, and we cap it off with a nc game at a neutral site just like the NFL. Oh, and 13 can stf up, finish in the top 12!!!

Six would be good. Those conferences with no championship would play during the week the conference championships are played. Winner(s) make to the playoffs. Even if ranked #1 before the games they would have to play to make it to final six. Also allows some none power five schools a shot at playoffs.

16 teams. Easily done as the FCS has shown.
I like this solution. I really think the opening rounds should be "hosted" by the higher seed. This cuts down travel, rewards the higher seed, and improves attendance.
5 champions, 1 Group of Five(must meet min criteria of some type), 2/3 wildcards.
I also like another poster's suggestion that you should require a 7 win season to participate in a bowl. That should weed out some of the useless bowls.
