CATS and Game Day

To no ones surprise it is not as efficient as it could be. There doesn't seem to be an organized route. Each driver just takes his/her own path. The drivers will also go to various stops that don't have anyone waiting, where a simple radio call to the CATS person at that stop could have told the driver no one was there and, thus, no reason to waste time coming by. That said, it is a reasonable alternative to driving.

Parking downtown is easy, and generally they are pretty good about getting you to the game somewhat timely. The return trip after the game can be hit or miss...largely due to the fact the "organizers" will try to load multiple busses at once and have all of them leave at the same time rather than just load a bus one at a time and roll out as soon as that bus is full. This is a problem because they will fill up one bus, then that bus will wait 10, 15, 20 minutes before the next bus fills up. The full bus could have been long gone by the time the next bus fills. And for whatever reason the drivers STILL don't understand there is contraflow on River Road northbound, which means they unnecessarily sit in the right lane as traffic zooms by in the left lane in the same direction.

In short, it does provide a less burdensome alternative to driving into campus. But because it is CATS it is not as well run as it could be.
