Can't wait for defenses to stack 8 or 9 in the box this year

Looking back at last year's highlights, defenses simply stacked the box against us and hoped for the best. We still won big aside from the obvious game but the lack of respect for our passing game was appalling. I think they are going to pay dearly this year.

I'd go back to the Flynn and JR era for parallels but even then, our running game was not this good. ZM doesn't have to play much better than Flynn for us to win big.

8 in the box will end after our second SEC win. When Mett kills them they will have to respect the pass. Assuming Les learns to throw on first or second down

Les threw plenty when we had the QBs. I had no problem with our play calling when JR, Flynn and RP were around. And if defenses play 4 in the box, they better prepare for death by a 1000 cuts a.k.a our run game.

I dunno.

Bama did on 1-9, and no QB in the universe would have been able to do shite.

If a guy has his hands on you when you snap the ball, you ain't going anywhere.

I am hoping for dramatically improved OL play, because they really shite the bed at the end of last season.

I don't know about that. Besides the obvious misses, I really think a few plays could have turned that into a closer game especially with our defense. We made no plays. A better QB could have made a few.

I do.

Definitely no QB we had.

I don't think Lee or Mett could have moved enough to buy any time at all. And I am not saying JJ played well, he didn't.

Bama made our OL quit. If they can't play better, Mett won't last a season.

maybe since bama knew JJ was not a threat throwing the ball it allowed them to play closer to the LOS and that made our OL look worse than it really was.

having a QB that is threat to throw the football behind the defense will take heat off our OL.

Not really. You don't. Nobody does.

19 times out of 20, we lose that game. But with a better QB, we score more than zero points. My hypothesis for a better season is also based on a weakened Bama front 7.

Could be.

Irrespective, no QB on our roster produces a better result.

What routes do we run to beat that pressure?

JJ had hands on him before anything developed. Lee and Mett would have been in the same spot.

last year? maybe so.

But if Mett does what we think he can this season, teams are gonna think twice about putting those extra men in the box, and they aren't gonna do it very often because he's got what it takes to make them pay. What we had at QB on 1/9 didnt have that ability and Bama knew it.

Mett and our OC needs to come out and establish him as a great passer early on so teams have less of tendancy to stack that box as often. When they stack it, he needs to capitalize so other teams see it on film.

did they? I thought they played their normal 2 deep look and let their front 7 wreak havoc.

I think our OL was among the best in LSU history, last season.

Until UGA and the BCSCG

They didn't do it, 8-9, all game.

But they did it several times, and blitzed other times.

Regardless, our OL couldn't have blocked Tara High School on 1-9

I agree.

The QB play was similar in both games. One team had the horses to stay with us for 4 quarters and one didnt

Would the play have been different with better OL play?

I'm not making this into a JJ/Lee thread.

Bama pinned their ears back and went balls out to our QB, and forced our QB to beat them with pressure in his face. Neither of our QBs would responded well to that pressure. Having a QB and playcalling to neurtralize that shite is what we need to have this year.

Yeah maybe we'll average 40 points a game like last season.

They did the same thing to Lee on 11-5.

nor I.

They were sitting on short routes, and balls-out blitzing.

Only way to neutralize is having you OL man up, and provide a few more seconds. . .or a couple more holes for the run game.

Pretty much what Arky did against us in the 2nd half of the game in 2010.

Instead, our OL just quit. Hurst was a turnstile.
