What a sad little person you must be then. FWIW, I have two degrees from LSU homey and I still don't have a problem with a non-alum saying "we" if he/she truly loves the school for everything that it is. NOT just when WE'RE winning NCs.
I agree, I've been donating money to TAF to help build LSU athletics programs and fix facilities since 1998. I supported LSU through the good and bad times. Also have a family member that played for LSU and another recruited by LSU which I got to go on a tour of the locker rooms, coaches office, walk out the tunnel of tiger stadium with him.

I mean I kinda can see the connection that "we" should be an exclusive word, where you should have to be part of the institution to be able to say "we." And the fact you are a fan, whether a band wagon or die-hard, has no relevance in this argument.

I hate Golic, but I kinda agree with him on this. Of course, I am an alum so I guess I am kinda biased.

As an alum I don't see a problem with it. Especially if you donate to TAF. I would have a major problem with someone who wasn't an alum claiming to be one. I don't care for people trying to make the association backwards either. Like "that dumbshit is an LSU fan and therefore is someone that got an education from LSU".

I paid for my wife to get her degree from LSU. Can I count that?

When most fans that aren't alums use we in reference to LSU I'm thinking they are talkin about the sports teams. Not as being an alum or saying "we" are renovating the dorms on campus or "we" just received new computers, etc.
Now I say "we" when referring to help build the upper deck for Tiger Stadium, renovate womens locker rooms, building new baseball stadium, Golf Team Facility, Academic Center for ATHLETES etc because I specifically donated money to help with those projects and could care less about the benefits, just want to do my part helping out STUDENT athletes and want them to have top facilities and the goodies that go along with them.

You know what? I don't really care what anybody else in this thread says. I'm going to keep proudly saying "we" in reference to LSU, like I have since I could talk, and I'm going to keep proudly displaying the BS I got from Valpo.
I don't see how it harms anybody one way or another, except the assholes who want to find an excuse to be elitist.

What about Tyrus Thomas, Brandon Bass, JaMarcus Russell, etc???? They do not have a degree from LSU. Can they say WE?

I went to Mizzou and I don't say "we" because of that reason. A lot of their alums look down upon people from the South and Southern Missouri and calls everybody racist, rednecks, etc. I don't like northern Missouri, Columbia, Jeff City, etc. Would I go to any events even If I was given free tickets, um no. I won't wear their gear, donate money to their athletic programs, even though I went to school there, paid tuition and then transferred. So if you are a fan of Mizzou, a member of their booster club you can say "we", I could care less even though I paid tuition there but I know some boosters or season ticket holders that have pumped LOTS of money into Mizzou's athletic program and never attended classes there. They can say "we" all they want.
ETA: those nice chairback seats where boosters sit at inside Mizzou Arena are a lot nicer than the cheap bleacher section students get.lol. People have a lot of respect for those high rollers because of the money they donate.

i actually agree with him on this. i think it's kind of pathetic for people that go to southeastern or ULL to use the term "we" when talking about LSU. not saying that you have to attend the university to be a fan, i'm actually an LSU fan myself, but "we" implies more than just fanhood IMO.

What's sad is a lot of athletes only use those schools as a stepping stone to go PRO and could care less about the school after they graduate. But then you have LSU alums telling regular Joe Blow who spends a lot of money on tickets, donate to TAF, etc he can't say we because he didn't go to LSU. Do they realize a lot of fans have more passion for LSU than former athletes. Maybe they should talk to some former athletes that only went to those schools because of a scholarship and could care less about the fans, schools, other alums, students, etc. They only looking out for themselves and family and wanting that $$$$$$$.

For the alums posting that non-alums can't say "we" when talking about LSU football.
How can you say that non alums, from contributing members of the TAF to somebody who buys a shirt or hat from the bookstore, can't reference LSU as we won the national title? A portion of the proceeds from those sales go to help pay for LSU athletics.
How is it different from an engineering alum who never participated in the athletic program?
Just attending the university for academics makes you a part of the athletics program?

I have spent alot of time, money, emotion, and the majority of my life on all things LSU. Ive never stepped foot in an LSU classroom but if i want to say "we" then i'll say it.
Personally, i try not to say "we" for the simple fact that im not on the team. But for some douchebag student or alum that to tell me i cant say "we" is moronic.

I know some alums from various schools that don't care about Sports and never attended a game in their life but say "we" when the teams do good. And "they" when the teams are bad. I love how they say "THEY" suck, "THEY" need a new coach, "THEY" are a bunch of thugs. I'd take regular non alum Joe Blow saying "we" anyday over the bandwagon alums they just went to school for a degree or the school's location.lol.

just curious, how many of the people that are getting worked up over this and are not LSU alums actually attended another university?

I attended Mizzou because of location to family. I got accepted into LSU, not hard to get accepted into that school.lol. But I didn't want to live 12hrs away from Family and don't care to live in Louisiana for 4yrs. A lot of people don't attend LSU because of where they live, maybe don't want to live in crime infested Baton Rouge for 4yrs, don't have the money. It's not because they couldn't get accepted into the school.
