I can't view GZ, but I wouldn't argue against either decision as well.

Once again Bergman did not read the hop properly. He went all or nothing when it was not necessary. That was no doubt an error.

I will re-phrase.

99 out of 100 times that same exact play is called a hit, regardless of the situation.

The shortstop charged. If he stays back and lets the ball take one more hop, the batter may beat it out. When the fielder charges from a long distance and tries to scoop the short hop (like what happened here), that is called a hit a vast majority of the time.

For the ballers in here who jussssst missed making the majors because your high school coach hated you and say Bregman unnecessarily made a "do or die" play......I will trust his instincts over yours. Sorry.

Not reading a hop correctly does NOT constitute scoring a play an error.

I agree. It was a hit and should have been ruled as such. Very close and it's unpopular opinion, but it was a hit.

Yeah it does. He should have played that hop normally and made the throw. He created the tough hop on his own. It was an error.

I mean it was an error even how he played it. But going kamakaze at the ball was just icing.

It was pretty much a microcosm of how average(defensively) bregman is as a shortstop

I am not disagreeing with any of this necessarily.

However, by the rules of scoring baseball, this does NOT constitute an error.

It is the same as if an outfielder misreads a fly ball, takes the wrong path, then doesnt get to it. It is a hit, not an error.

Lazare is a Vandy grad and the worst writer bar none on Tigerbait. It's a wonder Scarborough can even keep that site open with Lazare continuing to pen articles and S/S dominating the recruiting coverage.

That and between talking about how hard he works and wearing white suit pants and vests and poser glasses, he doesn't have enough time.

Nice. This thread has turned into a chance to take shots at a guy who could be playing minor league baseball right now instead of playing here. I heart the Rant.

I thought it was horrible call. Error all the way. I only saw it live, but I have "decent" seats for watching the SS. He charges balls he does not have to charge.

THIS DOES NOT CONSTITUTE THE RULING OF AN ERROR ON THE PLAY. You people do not comprehend well.
