Can someone provide a synopsis of Chavis' in-game adjustments?

i don't remember seeing us make such a radical in-game adjustment on defense before...essentially from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

was this so effective because A&M practiced/expected a 4-3 from us? in other words, what exactly went so right? is it THAT easy to stop A&M, just change to a 3-4 and throw some blitzes at em?

There's no arguing that part of our success was the scheme, not solely the talent. Is this the first time we've done this? Is it something we might see more of?

LSU brought in our "mustang" package

6 DBs on the field; lots of speed; more containment

It was mostly a reaction to the 5 wide looks they were constantly throwing at us.

We alternated Zone/Man and disguised our coverage so he couldn't read it before the play. We also alternated rushing and the containing their QB.

We did this with our mustang package which just makes me wonder how good we'd have been plus Tyrann and healthy because we're sporting a lot of new faces out there.

More athletes to contain JFF. 4 DL creates more lanes for him to run, Florida made this same adjustment against A&M

It was not a 3-4-4

It was a 3-2-6.

Basically kept a fence around "johnny football" 6 db's didn't give him chance to find a wide open WR. there were several coverage sacks after we went to the 3-2-6.

Florida ran a 3-4 in the 2nd half against A&M. Chavis watches game films and learns from them. Great coach!

3-4 look. Zone pass defense.

Make the QB use progression reads instead of looking at first and second receiver and running.

Keep O-line from opening running lanes for QB. Mush rush. See Natl Championship on how that works.

There were also a lot of zone blitzes disguised as man. On Minter's sack in particular, he lined up in the box and turned his body to cover the slot receiver in pre-snap, and as soon as the ball was snapped he turned his body and made a dead sprint for Manziel.

It was not a 3-4 but it was a hell of an adjustment to be made during the 2nd Quarter. He turned that D around fast. Chavis is an admirable coach.

We started the game in a 4-2-5 with the LBs outside the DEs to help contain. They ran up the gut and Chavis adjusted to a 3-2-6 with LBs lined up inside the DEs.

They slowed down the rush and contained JFF in the pocket other than a few scrambles.

Switched to 3 down linemen. Basically asked Bennie Logan to stop the inside running game all by himself, and it worked.

3 man front with either Bennie, Freaks's or Downs on the nose - played Barrow like a standup tackle and Eugene as a blitzing linebacker - genius by Chavis - great adjustment - shut down JFB - start working on Bama plan
