Here is my question...

The defense played outstanding last night. We allowed 135 total yards, had 6 sacks, very few penalties, and really only gave up one or two significant plays.
I'm on the fence with the QB situation. I think everyone agrees that Lee brings more explosive play potential in the passing game, but of course brings the interception risks. Jefferson tends to run a more conservative offense, but less risk involved with making dumb plays.
My question is, if the defense continues to play this well (yes I know it was Vandy), can we afford to run that conservative offense with Jefferson instead of allowing the possibility of interceptions with Lee? Basically, can we get by scoring 17-30 points per game? I think we can, but it sure is tough to watch that offense struggle...

No

The defense played well enough where the game should have been in hand by the end of the first half. If anything by everyone else on the team playing so well, there is a spotlight on the one failure which is the QB position.

The problem is, no matter how well our defense plays, if the offense can't sustain drives and give them a breather, they are going to get beat eventually.

And if they are not going to score points, one fluke missed assignment on defense that leads to a touchdown could give our opposition the game.

no, they look good but they will still need the O to step up.

Not as long as LSU plays in the SEC. Every team has a decent or terrific defense. 'Bama, UF, Ark. and Au. all have great offenses. The offense must improve and play consistantly the way they did in the 2nd quarter of UNC and the fourth quarter last night. Les and Crowton have a tough decision to make if JJ doesn't get it together next week. Moo-state will try bringing the heat. Other than just lining up and blowing them out in a running game, the way to defeat them would be to throw quick slants and curl routes. Guess which QB is better at both.

We are 72 in total offense and haven't played a complete garbage team like many teams have.

I'm not sold on the D, yet. Yates throwing for 400 on us is a cuase for concern. One thing I do see, this D needs to stay agressive. They are soooo much better when they are attacking, blitzing. When they don't get pressure there seems to be huge holes over the middle. The TE's and quick slant Defense needs to improve. D-line is much better than last year, and DE speed is much improved. Shepperd is everything you could ask for at MLB. Getting Baker back was HUGE. CB play made a huge jump from game one, as well as Safety. Loston and Reid need to develop their confidence, but you can see the Talent they have. We need to be better on the short pass defense, and run defense on sweeps to the strong side(they seem to want to pick on that side-I guess because Petterson is on the other side). We seem to dominate everything else right now.

Our D has been the best looking D line I've seen and we all thought that would be a problem. I'm ready to see Lee. Then I'll tell you how the season will go

I seem to remember the defense playing pretty damn well against Florida last year. That didn't turn out to well...
