I really think the important question is Can Mett turn Crowton into a OC?

I just wasted two hours watching the replay of Mettenberger in the Junior College championship. Navarro JC of (fruitcake capital)Corsicana, Texas, contained him for three quarters, then ate him alive in the fourth. ZM's final stats were 17-for-28 for 166 yards, one TD, one INT, at least 4 sacks and one fumble. I suspect he has a concussion.

Yes, he's a big boy: 6-5 and 245. He doesn't run, not even when he needs to preserve his life. He had one forward carry, for about two yards when he got flushed out and headed for the sideline. He did a lot of Manning-style talking and signaling at the line of scrimmage, but never made a hot-read completion. The bread-and-butter completions were in the flat 5-7 yards with the defense conceding. Not a single pass was completed over the top of the defense. There was one bomb, which traveled 62 yards in the air and was dropped by the defender.
On the plus side, he was accurate to an open receiver within 20 yards. He throws a tight spiral on a rope. His completions were all in rhythm to the primary target. I didn't see an example of a look-off or check-down completion. No improvisational skills whatsoever.
He took every snap from under center, and always in a curious split stance with his right foot forward and his left foot well back. He never once pitched the ball; every running play was a handoff. There was never a run-pass option nor rollout. Escapablility seemed to be a glaring weakness. A couple of times, he almost got killed.

Based on what I saw Sunday, anyone salivating over this kid as the savior of LSU quarterbacking had better lower his hopes. No way this recruit is ready to unseat Jordan Jefferson, whose skill-set is not approached by "Mett." I'm sure Miles has already stepped up efforts to woo Dak Prescott after watching his first wish wilt under pressure.
