Not knocking CJ, he was awesome. Most enjoyable basketball player I have watched.
However, remember the guard, I think he was from UTEP that shut him down.
Thomas is playing in a different league against much better/bigger players.
No offense, but this is a ridiculous take.

CBB was completely stacked with either NBA caliber or 3/4 year players in 1988-1989 seasons.

CJ really should have been playing 2 guard, but played a 1 because he had to. And lit it up. No offense to Cam, but he doesn't play the same position honestly, nor the weight of the position.

And the stats are staggering for CJ in comparison.

That guard from UTEP was Tim Hardaway, who played a long time in the NBA.

This take really pisses me off. I was at every home game from ‘88-‘95.

I watched Shaq dominate. I watched Henderson do his thing. Saw Ceaser shooting the 3. Loved watching Vernel.

shite, I enjoyed Jaime Bradley out of Chicago.

Chris Jackson is the best college basketball player I’ve ever seen. Comparing Cam Thomas to him, and the saying CJ couldn’t have done it now is stupid as frick.

Yup, I've been critical of his shot selection, as well, but today was what you want to see. I don't recall more than maybe one forced shot he took (which he was bailed out on with a foul). He took shots in rhythm and, as a result, he shot very well, and there is no question he was the best player on the court in this game.

That's the thing about Cam. It's not that he can't shoot well, it's that he usually takes so many off balance shots, that it doesn't matter who you are; you aren't going to make many of those. When he plays the game the right way, he can be great. Yesterday, he was. I hope to see that continue.

Good job by him.

I actually want to reiterate this stupidity again. CJ was scoring 50+ multiple times, 40+ quite a few times, and 30+ on average.

I like Cam, but CJ was ten times the player Cam is.

Just a fricking stupid take

That and there's no chance whatsoever he's staying a second year, but you're right also.

Awesome! Stepping up his game just in time for the postseason.

Yes, he always got his points but too many times not very efficiently outside his ability to get to the FT line.

But I think he's cut down on the really bad shots a bit, and hell, he only took 13 shots and scored what....his second most points of the year? Efficiency there and what appeared to be a more conscious effort not to force it as much it was not there.

Correct. I knew someone with a younger brain would know his name.
The talent in the SEC was much weaker in those days and CJ was awesome.

Did you really make a reference to a 5 time All NBA lottery pick in Tim Hardaway containing CJ as an indictment because he was “some guard from UTEP”?

You don’t know what you’re talking about, CJ had 33 in the loss to UTEP. Hardaway didn’t come close to shutting him down UTEP just beat us. They not only had Tim Hardaway but they also had Antonio Davis, who was an allstar and Greg Foster who went to multiple finals winning one title in LA . They were better than us but CJ still scored above his average.

The SEC in basketball is a shell of what it used to be when CJ was playing. That applies to college basketball in general, it's fallen so far.

The SEC won 3 titles in the 90s and was in the title game 2 more times, it’s won 3 in the 20 years after. That should tell you how good it was back then.

Straw man and goal post moving. The truth is you never saw CJ play and didn’t watch the SEC during that era though you claimed you did. You had no idea what happened in the UTEP game claiming CJ was “shut down” when he scored 33 points so you’re just making shite up. Sorry you fail.

CJ was good for a couple of steals and a few more pressure turnovers a game. Also good for several assists each time out on the court.

"Abdul-Rauf led the league in free throw percentage in the 1993–94 and 1995–96 seasons. His free throw percentage of .956 in 1993-94 is the third highest seasonal percentage in NBA history, behind Calvin Murphy (.958, 1980-81) and José Calderón (.981, 2008-09).[18] He played with Denver until 1996, and was a key player on that team, winning the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 1993. In November 1995 he scored 30 points and a career-high 20 assists against the Phoenix Suns.[20] On December 8, 1995 Abdul-Rauf posted a career-high 51 points against the Utah Jazz"

Tim Hardaway was a special talent with the best crossover ever (without carrying the ball). He had a nice NBA run, though he was never the same after the knee injury early in his career.

Jim Brown was 6’2” 232 pounds and retired from the NFL when he was only 29 years old, right after leading the league in rushing, touchdowns, and yards from scrimmage.

He was a four-sport star at Syracuse (football, basketball, lacrosse, track and field). Brown was an All-American in football and lacrosse multiple times and arguably the greatest college lacrosse player ever (the rules of college lacrosse were changed due to his dominance).

Brown high jumped, threw the javelin and discus in college and finished fifth overall in the decathlon at the National AAU meet. In high school, Brown averaged over 38 points per game in basketball, and he was scouted by the New York Yankees as a pitcher.

At Syracuse, “Roy Simmons Jr, the coach of the Syracuse boxing team thought Brown could have been the heavyweight champion if he dedicated himself to the sport.“ Brown’s father had boxed professionally.

The great athletes could have played in any era.
