Cade Beloso: Freshman All-SEC Snub

Most of the talk has been about Josh Smith not earning All-SEC honors, especially on the second team where he was clearly the better candidate. What I haven't hear much about is how Cade Beloso wasn't included on the Freshman All-SEC team. The freshman honors are set up differently than the other All-SEC teams, as they don't have one player per position on the team. But, for argument's sake, I'm going to compare him to the other freshman first baseman on the list: Florida's Kendrick Calilao.
Calilao: .275 BA, .736 OPS, 33 R, 4 HR, 44 RBI, 54 K, .988 FLD%
Beloso: .287 BA, .775 OPS, 26 R, 9 HR, 49 RBI, 38 K, .989 FLD%
The numbers don't lie. Beloso was superior in each category, except for runs, which isn't an individual statistic. It just doesn't make much sense to me.
The dude has made such an improvement from the beginning of the year. He was pull happy and looking dead red on each swing, to now where he is seeing all fields and become a great piece of this lineup. There's no reason his name shouldn't be on that card. Regardless of the snub, this baw is going to be a dang good Tiger for the next few years.

Impactful FR, no doubt. I'm sure he will continue to expand his game over the next two years.

Might need him to throw a few innings this weekend.

Wouldn't be the worst option.

As far as I'm concerned, none of these sports awards mean anything anymore. The Heisman, COY awards, Etc. They're all a joke. They're just watered-down, corporate, popularity contests. Same shite in music and film.
People have forgotten that awards are for excellence, not for popularity and fan boism.
It's a sign of the times. We've shifted from a meritocracy, a results-based society into a virtue-signaling, feelings based society. Off-topic and this is Poli Board material but I think it makes for an interesting conversation as I think it's related to the shift from a paternal culture into a maternal culture.

Why have an all freshmen team and do it without regard to position?
That’s just dumb.

Cade Beloso wasn't included on the Freshman All-SEC team.

Yes, he’s a keeper.
He’s gonna improve his game and be a good first basemen. He could be the star of the class as far as every day players go.

Beloso needs a lot of work to be able to play first at an AllSec caliber 1st is the only position for him to play. Does he have other options?

It is not a snub at all. The guys good but not that good yet.

How you figure? He's obviously had a better season than other players that did make the team.

Are you saying that to be All-SEC, you need to play multiple positions?

He has committed 4 errors in 19 fielding attempts at first base.

Calilao has 5 errors in 20 attempts at first. Plus, I really don't think they are looking at fielding percentage when Casey Martin made the second team.
I'm not saying Beloso is the greatest athlete on the planet. I'm just saying he did enough this year to warrant the Freshman All-SEC honor.

Got a picture in my parents house of that dude in the dugout when he was about 4 or 5.
Great family, glad to see him doing so well.
