I agree, tho most hated it. A win in the first game, which is always the sloppiest, against a decent D like Miami's is worth a conservative half of football. Even our backups got some playing time.

I feel really good about our QB after hearing his interview directly after the game with Holly.

Everyone I talk to I tell them that his best throws were the ones he was throwing away and not trying to force. He’s got a great head on his shoulders...I’m impressed

If that screen pass doesn't get knocked down, we take it to the house.

Burrow is just saying that because what else is he going to say, he's being politically correct in not trying to criticize LSU coaches or anyone to the media and just saying quo stuff. But he knows that he's much more capable than what he showed last nite because he just managed the game basically. Every QB that comes to LSU starts looking pedestrian in a offense that is run conservatively, but if Joe Burrow was back at Ohio St he'd be lighting it up. I watched Ohio State destroy Oregon State over the wkend, and Haskins and other QB's that Burrow was getting the better of looked unstoppable.

Steve Ensminger promised a uptempo RPO style offense and I saw none of that. They were supposed to be going no huddle, fast paced, 4 WR sets sometimes, and just playing fast. Instead you saw the same lethargic LSU offense that took it's time, huddled up all the time, and lined up and handed it off to the RB's straight up the defenses gut with some safe passing mixed in. If they would have spread Miami defense out in the spread with Burrows in the shotgun like Ensminger promised and handed it off to Brossette or Edwards-Helaire on some quick reads they could have broke off a lot more long runs all night.

I thought Mettenberger’s numbers weren’t “pedestrian”

1 season, man, in a offense that Cameron really had control over til Miles took it back. LOL

Burrow: “I just tried to play a little more conservative. Their front 7 is really good. I didn’t want to take too many chances because I knew how good our defense was. I didn’t want to throw any interceptions. We wanted to keep that turnover chain in the box.”

Translation: football games are usually won by the team that makes the less mistakes. I was doing my best to make sure there were no mistakes.

There was quite a bit of no huddle, spread offense in the first half.

Putting in second string was the wrong move.

It wasn't wrong. We won by two scores.

Getting back ups playing time is a positive and there seems to have been a good bit of cramping last night so giving the starters a breather made sense from a physical stand point.

A turnover away from the game being one score. I’m all for getting subs in for experience, but make sure the game is in hand first. This was a statement game for LSU.
