We put 500 yards on those guys. Our play calling at the goal line was really vanilla.
this and the officiating are the only things that kept the game close. not sure what was going on with the short yardage play calls. very unimaginative.

having said that, i don't think bama's d is as good as auburn's d. bama's o is absolutely better than auburn's but, i don't think it's good enough to light up lsu's steadily improving d. aranda has done a great job this year. doering and chizz had some eye opening analysis of that after the game.

the line on this game is puzzling. lsu has been the better team all season. the lsu staff has made amazing game adjustments every game. lsu has the better staff, the better resume and is battle tested. most importantly, the main reason lsu beats bama is joe burrow. the guy is a winner and the toughest sob in cfb

What should we have run?
i think it was the first 4th down play near midfield. lsu lined up quickly and ran an option/qb keep with rb lead blocking to the left side. that was absolutely going to get the 1st down easily. auburn called a timeout. after the timeout, lsu ran a standard handoff between the tackles which got stuffed - like every other handoff between the tackles. that should answer your question

was a genius plan by Steele.

Wish he could have had genius plans while he was at LSU. Man that guy was garbage. Can’t quite fathom the turnaround.

He was a fill in for one year here.

I know I'm not supposed to give too much detail here on this board but to hell with it...

It wasn't an issue of 'not having his players', it was an issue of not being to implement what he normally does. Which much of what he does is predicated on disguises. It takes a lot of coaching and time to get that installed and correct.

He simply came in and ran Chavis' defense, which did have personnel issues especially on the DL, the best he could.

It took Aranda 2-3 to get his installed. It took Steele a couple years at AU also. One year isn't enough for such complicated schemes that is 'his' defense.

They got away with the conservative play calling

I think they USED conservative play calling BECAUSE the defense was playing well. And the field definitely helped make this decision.

They had a LBr up on JJ at the LOS to jam up the slants with a CB on him as well.

another reason why those bunch or tight, whatever the hell you want to call it, formations are stupid.

but his play against AU was one of his best performances this year.

absolutely this. ive seen folks say that he had a down game or hurt his heisman chances. in reality, the ONLY reason we moved the ball was Burrow's ability to move in the pocket and make great off balance throws....CONSTANTLY

timing plays were way off because of their DLine and taking away the middle of the field, so burrow improvised all game long.

I thought it was beautiful to watch personally, and when NFL scouts watch, i think he did a lot to help his stock overall.

ETA- im not comparing the two at the same level, but watching aaron rodgers last night...it was a VERY similar performance.

The Auburn game actually proved to me more that Joe is an elite QB and a Day 1 starter in the NFL. His movement and feel in the pocket is advanced even by NFL QB veteran standards...
The fact that he didnt take more sacks in that game, his running mobility and his ability to keep his head up field in the midst of pressure and find receivers with accuracy is the reason he will go #1 in the draft.
Even the interception wasnt a bad throw. Defender just played it well and like a capable NFL corner. Jamar has been winning those battles. Joe thought he would come back to it a lil sooner and the defender played it as well as one could assume.

Thankfully CEH ran all over their asses.

thats why you better always have a run game... having those three RB's is huge... and getting another one for next year will be huge...

Curry will transfer and I really think CEH will go pro, and i honestly think he should... he's hit his ceiling and shown he can play in a pro offense... catching, blocking, rushing... ball security/ shifty... hes done very well... I would even think orgeron may guide him out to make room for the young talented backs to have their time...

This is why CEH was open twice on passes over the middle?

The auburn defense did a great job of taking away the middle of the field from us.

I think we should have thrown to the RB a lot more in the flats. They were giving us that all game.
