that’s literally the only year they were even good enough to beat us.
They have won 9 or more games 3 times since 1998.
you can add 1 8-5 season to that’s if your wanna looks at 8 or more winsZ
They’ve only had a winning record in their conference 5 seasons since 1998.

Tbh, I would rather play Tulane in the afternoon or evening, in the dome the opening weekend of the season. I would enjoy getting to not sweat my arse off for one weekend of the season.

They stopped playing each other for a good reason. Violence.

Then what was the point of trying to do a home and neutral site series with rice then? both Tulane and rice are private schools with majority of student population is out of state and not Tulane and rice athletic fans. Like I understand trying to recruit but makes no sense to potentially playing rice at NRG stadium and Tulane at super dome and basically southern Methodist (either at their stadium or AT&T) knowing that it would make likely be mostly lsu fans at the away games and losing money when you can play a G5 opponent at tiger stadium. Like I get it if it was Boise state like ya ok they are a public state University with 30k to 50k fans even though their stadium is less than 35k seating capacity and a lot of their student body is Boise state fans and also students who don’t mind going to football games would make sense to do a home and home ; they proven to make it to a new years 6 bowl / college football playoffs. But like what does teams like Tulane and rice bring to the table.

The reason why we stopped playing them was money. LSU wanted us to play two games in Baton Rouge for every one game in the Superdome. Tulane wanted a standard home/@home arrangement. LSU was angry because they make a lot more money off of a home game against a directional school than they do playing in the Dome.
Personally, as a football fan, I would be down to play Tulane EVERY YEAR IN THE DOME!!! Air conditioning in September is AWESOME! Ending a historic rivalry series over not being willing to play home/@home is asinine and petty. Bring back the Battle for the Tiger Rag!

play at Yulman.
Hot take: Yulman rocks. Seen several games there and had a blast each time.

Solves the problem of not having an SEC rivalry game that weekend.
frick Tulame. They are a G5 program, even if the PAC whatever or Big 12 give them an invite one day. They do not and will never again deserve a home and home, or even a 2 for 1. That is a huge money loss for LSU and it will never make sense to do it. They are just a small school in a lower-rated TV market already covered by LSU. There is absolutely nothing to be gained from this.
It’s their own fricking fault for leaving the SEC. The loss of this series and their perpetual irrelevance in the grand scheme of college football are both consequences of that stupid, shortsighted decision. If they want to come to Tiger Stadium every few years so we can beat their brains out like every other LA school, fine. But we should never again play a football game in NOLA that isn’t the Sugar Bowl or a playoff game. Period.

If they move it to the dome, sure. I’m not sure if LSU will want to play at Yulman.
frick playing in the Dome. Even if they split revenue, this is a massive money loss over hosting ANY home game, even one vs an FCS opponent that no one cares about.

But Georgia has done just fine with playing tech. Tech has only won 7 games since 1990.
GA Tech is a legitimate P4 program. Tulame is not and will never be one again.

maybe ever 4th or 5th year play in the dome but that's it.
Never. We would literally be lighting 6 figures on fire to do that for a game ESPN wouldn’t give less of a shite about. Why in the frick would we EVER do this?

Kinda agree if they do a 1 and done:
65-70% LSU / 30% - 35% Tulane
LSU is the designated home team
Sec shall retain the broadcasting rights
And shall keep all broadcasting and sponsorship revenue generated from the game.
Next question why would lsu be stupid enough to agree to that when they can just host Tulane at tiger stadium and only pay Tulane about $1.6 million instead of a neutral site game and Tulane would get $3 million to $3.5 million; save about $1.5 to $1.9 million in Tulane’s guaranteed

Not every neutral site game is created equal, playing a team like FSU in the dome creates way more $ for us.
Teams in those first weekend neutral site games get extra money from ESPN and great exposure to make it worth their while. You won’t ever get anything for playing Tulane the last week of the season. It would never come close to the bigger rivalries. It would be just another game.

After the SEC announced it was going to a 9 game schedule AND a required P4 opponent, it's become very simple:
You don't play a G5 on the road. Ever.
What's gonna happen is this- you do a home and home with a P4. On years where you have 5 conference road games, you get the P4 team at home.
That gives you 5 home games, w 2 spots left.
You lock those last 2 into home games.

I think the issue is that Tulane wants a return game, and LSU doesn't want to give them one. Ole Miss played at Yulman
Tulane has a new nice little stadium. LSU fans would take it over.
I get that Tulane wants a home and home, but surely it is more economically feasible for them to just play at LSU. I'm sure they would receive more revenue at LSU, than trying to get LSU to Tulane.

It’s not petty. It’s fricking business. And it was Tulame’s bad business decision to leave the SEC that has them where they are today. frick them.

frick Tulane. I’ve always hated them. But I do hate this for Memphis. They’ve had 2 for 1s with Ole Miss, State, Arkansas and Missouri in recent years and UT and Vandy in the past. That will be over now unless they can finally get an invite to the Big 12 or ACC.

Every SEC team with an outside rivalry, the other team is still P4.
Florida has Florida State or Miami, both ACC. Georgia has GA Tech, ACC. So Carolina has Clemson, ACC. Kentucky has Louisville, ACC.
Oklahoma has Ok State, Big 12. Or they could go Nebraska for giggles, Big 10.
Tulane doesn't bring that to the table. LSU has to find a P4 team, which will have the leverage to get a home and home series... because we HAVE to schedule someone. That's the simple economics of it. You're not going under 7 home games, unless you get a huge neutral site matchup.
Tulane is NOT that game.
