Know who had the best 3rd down passing numbers? TJ Finley. Know who had the overall worst? Max Johnson.

Sounds like crickets to me

fans. Now do we know how much Johnson’s improved, do we know if Brennan’s injuries have had long term effects? No
This to me is really what makes the fans and analysts opinion on the situation pretty much worthless.
Just about anyone can see who the better player is when both are fully healthy and if they both improve at about the same rate. I think Brennan has been around a shite load of football in many different forms.
That’s got to pay off eventually
Brennan still hasn’t gotten the chance to play enough consecutive snaps to see his ceiling. Max either but Myles floor is significantly higher.
Just imagine if Brennan had gotten to start ten games last year.

And before someone brings up Max's wheels.. he ran for a whopping 27 yards on 3rd down.

It was actually 4-1
Because your counting a TOD for them and not us.
So we were +3 against Missouri and Florida.

I didn’t even accuse you of talking about Johnson’s stats? I did call you stupid though.

Watching LE duke it out on TR is always a treat

But LSU scored off turnovers against Mizzou, so Brennan sucks.

The 2-0 record of max vs 1-2 for Myles could have easily been flipped max could have easily lost that game to ole miss after throwing that terrible red zone int
If we’re gonna be critical of one we should be critical of both
Obviously Florida was a lucky situation. I think he played better against Florida even with the big day yardage wise against ole miss

Bingo.
shite, if our line could get a 1 TD on first and goal against Mizzou, we win that game in spite of ourselves - just like Fla and OM.
ETA: imagine we eek out wins vs MSU and Mizzou, but drop OM and Fla. All QB statistics the same. How radically different is the psychology on this board with regard to Brennan?

I’m worried coach o will be blinded by his emotions towards max and has him on his mind regardless of what peetz says.
He wouldn’t do that though ,would he? I think thats an old Ed o type move, I hope

This was from part 1. If it’s been quoted already I apologize
quote:
Max Johnson was a significant downgrade, in 2020, at the quarterback position from Myles Brennan. That is undeniably true, I don’t care that he won two games because Marco Wilson threw a shoe and Matt Corral had a stroke and threw five(!) interceptions in a game that Kayshon Boutte deserves most of the credit for winning. Max Johnson won two starts with okay but underwhelming performance; Myles Brennan lost two of three with some inconsistent but intermittently high end play against Mississippi State and downright elite, Day 1 NFL Draft prospect level play against Missouri.

I don’t think we can go wrong either way, assuming Max has progressed a little and Brennan hasn’t regressed post-injury

so Brennan sucks.
Never said Brennan sucks. Not once.
Guy in the article said he played like a top 5 pick, and like an All Pro. Anyone who endorses that take has an agenda.

The reality is we were bad on 3rd down in general. The O line did nobody any favors. I'm just pointing out that Max wasn't more successful on 3rd or redzone. That narrative is a fairy tale.

Also in part 1
quote:
Despite his 1-2 record (thanks Bo), Myles Brennan absolutely looked the part in his three-game stint as the starting LSU quarterback. Overall, Myles Brennan posted a PFF grade of 87.5 with a passing grade of 88.3, both numbers a hair shy of the elite 90 benchmark. He posted a superb big time throw percentage of 7.5 with a minuscule turnover worthy play percentage of 0.7. He was an absolutely incredible deep passer, posting a 97.5 (!!!!!) grade on balls past 20 yards down the field, which was behind only the likes of Zach Wilson, Mac Jones, Spencer Rattler, Sam Howell, and Trevor Lawrence. It’s unfair to compare him to those guys given the sample differences but it shows how good he was in that time. Facing pressure Brennan really shined. It’s important to note that performance under pressure is inherently unsustainable and volatile given the fluidity and unpredictability of pressure situations. That said, Brennan’s passing grade when pressured was an astonishing 82.8 (under pressure that’s incredible but probably unsustainable). His yards per attempt under pressure came in at 11.4 (!!!), with an absurd big time throw percentage of 12.8. His passing grade when blitzed was an elite 90.2 with a BTT percentage of 8.2. Those numbers themselves are unsustainable, but it does show that Brennan can make plays and move the football when the bullets fly, which is important because LSU’s offensive line still projects to underwhelm. More predictive benchmarks occur when kept clean, because it eliminates the fluidity and variance of pressure situations. Brennan posted an 87.2 overall grade with a rock solid big time throw percentage of 5.3 and a tiny turnover worthy play percentage of 1.1. That’s decently high level stuff; it’s a shade under stardom, and it displays the high end ability he flashed before his injury.

quote:or, a way to say "he seems to figure out a way to make the play needed".
“It factor” is another term for “I just like him better because I just do.”
For everyone disparaging the "it factor" comments, let's keep in mind- Myles Brennan has a great arm. Way better than Johnson's. Way better than Burrow's, too. The arm is only part of the equation, it's what that guy does on the field.
We had a discussion awhile back here, on guys with elite arms vs those with okay arms. A point was made that the elite arms were able to get by on arm strength in high school, and to a lesser extent in college. They can make the wrong read and get away with it. The guy with the average arm has to make the right read.
I don't care who the QB is, as long as he's successful. But there seems to be a lot of analysis on this going on, to further this guy or that one...
so here's my take. The starter hasn't been announced yet, and we have a 5th year guy who opened last season as the starter on the roster. The longer that continues to be the case, the more I think that points to it being Johnson.
