Nothing Will Campbell said before last year’s USC game was offensive or derogatory toward the other team, either. That didn’t stop the comments from becoming a talking point, especially after we lost.

Agreed. And I’m not necessarily saying that it’s “smart” to say stuff that can get clipped and come back to bite you. But this board is filled with people talking about how cocky and disrespectful Coastal was and many of those people probably loved when Campbell said that before the USC game.

Not being sure which state they were located in? No. It’s not like we are close or play them on a regular basis. I didn’t know where Coastal was the first time we played them.

I’m NOT saying that. I’m just saying our guys handled the media in such a way that no soundbites came out of anything they said.

It wasn't necessarily the pitchers response but the other player to the far left response that was dismissive and could be seen as disrespectful. I am paraphrasing because I can't remember the exact words but it was something like "we aren't worried about any Tigers".

Give respect. Keep it generic. Move on.
Charles Barkley could have used that advice when the USA's Olympic basketball "Dream Team" arrived in Barcelona for the 1992 Olympics.

It was the first time NBA players were eligible to play in the Olympics and the team's roster included Michael Jordan, Barkely, Scottie Pippen, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, David Robinson, Chris Mullen, Karl Malone and other all-stars.

Their first game was against the Angola national team.

At a press conference before the games started, Barkley was asked, "What do you know about the team from Angola?"

He replied, "I know they in big trouble..."

That situation was…a little different. That was the best basketball team ever assembled.

It is funny that a college all-star team lead by Penny Hardaway and others beat them in a scrimmage before they went to the Olympics. Before getting curb-stomped in game 2.

It was an absolutely dumb question but they probably could've handled it better too. They played into exactly what the media was fishing into there which was to create a drama story.

You don’t think basically saying “your school is so irrelevant I don’t even know what state it’s in” can’t be perceived as a shot?

LSU clearly puts their players through media training.

The Chocolateers clearly do not.

Absolutely.

Very cringe question. The Coastal players were put in a no-win situation. I don't expect them to slobber all over the knob of the team they are trying to beat.

How would this go over?

"Hey LSU football player, what do you admire about Alabama?"

I think we may be overlooking the obvious here: They WANTED to cause a stir. Which is fine by me.

Please
What do you “respect” about your opponents
Answer “nothing” is wrong 10 out of 10 times. Not that it matters but horrible situational awareness

At a program like LSU, media savvy is part of it. It’s taught and it’s in their DNA.
Dang near half of the college sports analysts have LSU ties it seems.

Coastal is in waters they aren’t used to swimming in.

Nothing?

What do you think of the LSU program? Players go silent forever.....then pitcher says "not much".

That's coming directly from their coach. They are Tenn light.

That was disrespectful and a lack of class. Even if you dont think it, the generic answer is .....great program, great team, we will have to play well....Yada yada....

It is that easy.

The disrespect was intentional.....and karma is a bitch.

Yes, I know you are the loser that got everything wrong earlier this week. Congrats on that. Cannot believe they haven't banned your sorry arse
