I was a big supporter of Les down the line, but this particular criticism was more than fair.
The offense would have been outdated even in the late 1980s (outside of the Big-12, anyway). It was a vicious cycle - we couldn't get/develop QBs so the offense had to be simple and run oriented. We out-talented most of our schedule, particularly on defense, so it worked - mostly. Once Saban got settled into Bama, that game became the Superbowl every year. They weren't "more" talented than we were in most of those games, but certainly "as" talented and knew what we were going to do.
Sad that Les' stubbornness cost us at least 1 championship, probably 2. Only thing karmic is that it also cost him millions of dollars and truly legendary status at LSU. But, a great coach, overall, a great dude and a great character to have in the pantheon of LSU HFCs.

Good for him. Regardless of how his tenure at LSU went, I am glad he's successful.
It's not that kind of assistant position, it's one of the support staff/shadow staff ones that dont pay much.

Miles apologists also suggest that Jarrett Lee “broke” Les Miles. Maybe Les broke Lee. A great coach wouldn’t be mind fricked by a bad experience with a quarterback.

Not sure if I heard it here or not, but I remember someone saying that they were sitting next to Reuben Randle's parents at 1-9, and they asked if he was coming back the next year, and the father replied "for this?"

I was calling the shite from my couch. Saban said on the first play of 2015 he felt good about their chances to win when their NT beat our C one on one.
Imagine being so sure that nothing was going to change at all.

We had to throw the ball in 2008, the defense was pure trash, we had a walk on and freshmen to turn to at QB, it was just a bad set of circumstances caused by Perrilloux being a dunderhead. He let Crowton do his thing and thats the last we ever saw an offense of a OC at LSU, it was Les' offense from there on out. Les judged letting an OC do their thing off that 2008 season by letting a walk and 2 freshman QBs loose, which was a bad way to go about it to judge future teams.
He held back Metteneberger and co so much in 2013. Almost infuriating with him and Landy/Beckham Jr we only threw the ball like 25 times a game.

Not sure if it would have turned out any differently for Les, but Perrilloux is a big factor in all of this. If he doesn't get kicked off the team, we don't play Hatch and Lee right away, and Lee doesn't get burned as a true freshman.

I didn't hear anything from Harris about completing 53.6% of his passes.

Did you see what happened to Burrow's completion percentage when they put him in the right system?

Maybe with an innovative offense he would have done better.....like Burrow. Burrow completed 58% in 2018

Did you see Harris away from LSU? He wasn't good.
Burrow was way more accurate in 2018 (over 70% adjusted accuracy). Burrow also had only been an campus a couple months before starting.

Didn't Burrow say that Auburn knew the plays they were running? I guess it's tougher to stop if you're passing all over the field vs running the ball straight up the middle or outside the left tackle.

This is why I can never forgive Miles even if I forgive everything else.
Miles wasted YEARS of talent. He wasted talented young men's entire careers at LSU. Just squandered it. And in doing that he also squandered untold victories and glory for LSU.
It's just unforgivable to sacrifice all of that on your alter of stubborn arrogance and ego.

Not saying Harris would all of the sudden be a Heisman winner. But if you dont play to your quarterback's strengths, of course they'll struggle. Long and short of it, LSU didn't know how to use their talent.

Ok, but Harris wasn't good outside our system. It's possible to think Les's style was antiquated and predictable and also acknowledge that Harris just wasn't a good QB.

Anyone who understands the game even “a litttttle bit” knew this was the case.
It was absolutely ridiculous to watch and honestly it was doing those players a disservice.
So fricking glad Les Miles is gone.
And for the record, I would’ve taken ANYONE to be head coach as long as it wasn’t him.
