Has it ever been definitively stated why the huge difference in this year compared to last year? I may have missed it, but I just don't understand why his punts aren't what they were last year.

I have heard about the fact that Mathieu and others aren't there to chase them down, but I haven't seen the punts that are just dying inside the ten like they were last season.

Unless Wing has figured out a way to punt touchdowns, he is not the key to this game

The scramble punt he had I guess in the first game of the season was the most impressive punt I have seen this season.

If our punter is the KEY to the game, we are in big trouble. I like Wing and I think he is a big asset. How about he learns to throw the ball as accurately as he punts it?

I guess you didn't actually watch the game last year. After the Reid interception Wing booted a 70+ yard punt that completely turned the field position around. He had a HUGE role in us winning that game last year.

Field position is what's actually the important part here. Bama's O is good enough to move the ball at least enough to flip the field. The question is whether or not our O can move it far enough to help in the field position battle. Wing has been punting out of his own end zone a lot this year.

If we get pinned inside our 20 and start rattling off 3-and-outs it's gonna be a long day. This is what Bama will try to do. Play field position, pin us deep, play defense, get the ball back on a short field. We HAVE to move the ball far enough to give Wing a chance to flip the field.

Key might be strong. His performance will impact the game though. I hope he got whatever is bothering him fixed over the bye week.

well, field position.

pin them deep, hope we get a 3 and out, and get our offense on the field with <50 or less to go.

i mean really, how many times did we hear last year that wing was the difference in field position?

Yes, LSU will need the level of play from him that he showed last year. This year has been awful. Everyone will be stretched thin to keep this game within reach, and Wing will definitely be one that needs a perfect game.

yea we need the wing that may or may not have hit the wire at BDS last season to show up. that and solid field goal kicking. not to mention coverage. the whole unit has been somewhat disappointing this season, hopefully the bye has cleaned things up.

Hate to hear that our punter is the key player.
