There's plenty of coaches that would be an upgrade to our current staff. That's a very low bar.
Stoops would be a safe hire. He would undoubtedly have us in the top 3 in the SEC West. But he struggled to get over the hump late in his career at Oklahoma. I have a feeling he would do the same here.

With Bama, TX, OKLA, UF, and A&M in the SEC, youre not going to find a coach that can be Top 3 year in, year out

I don't need a guy that can be in the top 3 every year. I need a guy that can finish in the top 5 of the SEC 4 out of 5 years, win an SEC title 1 out of 5 years and play for a championship 1 out of 5 years.

Other than Saban, who wins championships in bunches? Stoops also won 10 out of 17 conference titles. The last 2 were back-to-back before his retirement

He struggled to get over the hump. He has the nickname "Big Game Bob" for a reason. If you want to be a perennial top 15 team that is more often than not on the outside looking in at the playoffs then Bob Stoops is your guy. If you want to compete for championships then I think we're better off taking a shot at one of the up and comers.
