BATON ROUGE - LSU men's basketball coach Trent Johnson announced on Friday that guard Bo Spencer is ineligible for participation for the fall semester with the team and must pass course hours in the fall to be eligible to rejoin the team at the end of that semester.

"We are disappointed for Bo, but our academic staff will continue to work to help him regain his eligibility," said Johnson. "He must now work hard in the classroom to regain the chance to rejoin the basketball program."

Spencer, from Baton Rouge, has played three years at LSU. He has started 63 of 93 career games averaging 9.8 points per game for his career, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. In the SEC championship year of 2009 he averaged 11.4 points per game and 14.5 points a season ago.

it would be nice if he came back and found a way to help the team in the spring semester. i still think he's probably gone at some point though.

What a way to possibly blow the end of your college career. I have my doubts whether he will see the court again at LSU. He'll have his work cut out for him if he does make it back at the end of the fall.

storm has leadership qualities, he's a lead by example kind of guy, works real hard. he and bass are the only guys who have even played a minute or two of ncaa tournament basketball on this team as of now.

yeah i like storm i just dont think he is good enough to be that dominant big guy. he can average 10 to 15 ppg which is great. we need some freshmen to step up. i hope trent will have the team ready by the fall.

I hate the fact that Trent did not bench him or teach him team play. I hope he studies and comes back and graduate. I wonder where was Trent when Bo was not passing?

Play the young guys - playing Spencer if he returns for SEC play hinders the development of the team. If Spencer can't help in the fall, make sure his replacements get the SEC reps so they're ready next fall.

With that said, if he returns for spring utilize him off bench as 3 point threat.

500 in sec play is doable

yeah storm will always be solid, he will dominate the smaller defenders he'll face early in the season and have some trouble with the bigger guys later in the year but he won't have to face much if any more 5's out there with malcolm white, who is going to have to play well.

always a toss up when counting on freshmen, you have to hope they can contribute quickly and develop faster, they will certainly be playing a lot of minutes. keep an eye on ralston turner, i really believe he is going to help us a lot. ross miller and stringer are going to play a lot especially without spencer.

if white puts up respectable numbers, the freshmen can collectively contribute and dennis harris takes his game to another level we could have something here, but i think it will take these guys some time. all these freshmen are talented, i haven't even mentioned derenbecker or courtney but its normal for them to take some time to develop. i also look forward to seeing dotson coming into his second season off that knee injury.

do you really want to rely on someone who can't make the grade to stay on the team to be the team leader? someone else will step up and lead.

Bo has been toeing the line since he arrived on campus his freshman year. I know for a fact that he was very close to being ineligible before his junior season. Honestly, I can't believe it hasn't happened before now. He must have had some damn good tutors. There is nobody to blame but Bo himself.

Unless his shot selection drastically improves, this simply won't be the case. Last year, he shot 33.3% from the floor and 28.4% from beyond the arc (that's about what Garrett Temple shot from three point land).
