It was just as weird not hearing Charlie doing color.

I never understood the hate for Hawthorne, he was a great LSU guy who did a tremendous job calling the games. I felt like he was a buddy of mine telling me what was going on. He didn't always get it exactly right, but much more than made up for it in his passion for LSU.

Did I strike a nerve?
Sorry it offends you that Hawthorne may not fully grasp baseball and different situations that come up leading to decisions that are made. He is much better at basketball. But he leaves alot to be desired for baseball. Hopefully Blair shows a decent understanding of the game. I think he will. He seems hungry to learn about the program.

I listened to the last few innings on the radio.

This guy is going to be really good. Very impressive. We're seriously lucky to have him. The other big-time places that didn't hire him missed out.

He also does a nice W-C-K..Fouuunn-dation repair promo.

Once he becomes a true fan of LSU sports he will be a great one. I wish he'd get a little more excited when big plays happen so the listener can get a feel for the crowd/emotion etc. that's a double edge sword however bc Hawthorne would get all excited and then completely botch the call.

Hawthorne would get 8/10 play calls wrong when calling baseball. He was constantly being corrected by whoever was in the booth with him. He had passion but would also whine and whine so much during the game. You could tell when he started getting annoyed when a game was getting too long for him. And that was Just it: during the last 10 years LSU sports became more about jim than the ones playing or listening.

I agree, I am big Hawthorne fan. After all these years and he's just as pissed when thing are going wrong and when right, gives the excitement, even if he's not perfect giving the pbp. That's why I am a big La/LSU homer type guy. But Blair is a Tiger now and will be great.

You people who liked Hawthorne's calls are out of your mind. I grew up with it too and always knew how bad it was. This guy on his first night has proven this beyond a doubt.

Hawthorne is a great LSU fan. That doesn't make someone a good radio man.

Bring on the down votes.

He was great and will become a fan. May never have the passion Jim does, but that passion really played to his detriment the last few years. The negativity and complaining really made me dislike listening to him the last 3-5 years.

And Hawthorne didn't seem to understand situational baseball, even after announcing it for decades. I honestly don't think he liked baseball that much and it really pissed me off when he would obviously have a mouth full of hot dog talking during a game. I always thought Jim was good at basketball. Football, meh, and got worse.

Blair seems like a great hire.

Not sure why, but he does remind me of Jim Hawthorne a bit. I'm looking forward to listening to him on the radio for LSU games in the future.

Hawthorne is an alum of Northwestern State. He worked here for 32 years. Pretty sure Blair will be "passionate" if he stays that long. Larry Munson was perhaps the biggest homer ever, and he did not go to Georgia.

I don't know why everyone is choosing sides between him and Jim. Jim retired, he wasn't fired. New era, I think this guy will be great.

he is a great play by play guy, but last night's winning hit call was nothing like hawthorne. Tiger's win sounded forced. But I don't mind it.

But to tell you the truth the worst part about Hawthorne was his extreme negatiger sound when things weren't going well. I hated that. I think it will be nice to just have someone tell us what's going on and not Add to our aggravation with the 'the sky is falling whine you'd hear in Hawthorne. Leave that part up to the fans.
