I do not think that he will have the say in the play to be called, I believe that he is to assist in the looking into what call should be made. But, Crowton will make the call it is just another set of eyes on the field to make sure that the correct call is being made at any given time. To me, I think any time that you have two sets of eyes looking into the defenses on the field another set of eyes will be a more than welcome addition.

Yeah, this sound like a GREAT idea. Is it so hard to see the huge pitfalls in this plan (if it is the plan? And which one of them is responsible for calling time outs? Or will they each blame the other when 19 seconds runs off the clock?

Seriously, you dont give a WR's coach an OC job at a major program without having him prove himself somewhere else first.

Was our passing game really the problem? Can this guy coach up an O-line?

Could be- if Crowton gets the ULL job, then Tolbert becomes the WR coach and Gonzales the OC.

OC in waiting....

GC has one more year to improve, IMO. If he doesn't, he's out.

I just really hope we don't have another co-coordinator situation. Last one didn't work out too well.

But how will we know if Crowton is the problem next year?

If the offense succeeds, do we promote Gonzales/fire Crowton/stick with the same format?

If the offense struggles, do we fire Gonzales/fire Crowton/hire a whole new set of coordinators?

We have two independent variables in this coaching equation, and it will be hard to isolate one of them as the cause for success or failure.

Meyer said he did not interview receivers coach Billy Gonzales for the coordinator position

...why would Meyer need to "interview" a coach who has worked with him on a day-to-day basis since 2001...

its not co co coordinator, its a quality way to get a very capable wr's coach who wants to leave from Meyers shadow, mad because he was passed as oc last year and get a raise in the process
I think this is true...but could Gonzales be our OC in the next year or two?? Possible, could have been the X factor in getting him to come to LSU...

Whether he is the problem or not, he will be responsible for making the offense work. Get him out and promote Gonzales is what you would have to do if we do not see improvement.

From Chris Low on ESPN online earlier this morning:

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Billy Gonzales has joined the LSU staff as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator, after spending the past five years coaching receivers at Florida.

Tigers coach Les Miles said Friday that Gonzales brings "tremendous experience and great knowledge of the game" to the LSU program. Gonzales replaces D.J. McCarthy.

Gonzales served under Urban Meyer since the 2001 season, and this past season helped the Florida offense rank first in the SEC and 12th nationally in total yards with 442 per game. The Gators averaged 217 yards passing per game.

Miles said that Gonzales will work with offensive coordinator Gary Crowton in developing strategies for the Tigers' passing attack.
