The defense looked like it was playing much faster. They looked more proactive and less reactionary. Definitely seems like a lot less missed tacked. Pass rush looked great. But...

Texas A&M had the 3rd worst offense on LSU’s schedule this season. The only 2 ranked lower were GA Southern who LSU held to 3 points and Arkansas. Arkansas scored 20 but were held to 6 until late in the game. 7 of those points came after the freak onside kick that went 65 yards.
I like the improvement but not totally sold on this being a much improved defense that all of a sudden has figured something out. I hope I’m wrong.

We actually dialed up different pressure consistently for 60 minutes.

We have not done that all year. Hopefully those calls continue.

LSU played better D against aTm than Clemson, Bama, Auburn or Georgia did. 169 total yards allowed.

LSU defense has always been at its best when we BLITZ BLITZ BLITZ! We have done that the past 2 weeks and I don’t expect it to stop until we have the trophy

Agree,
And fresh people on the field.

14, 25, 35 and 9 make us better. They aren’t superior to those that start in front of them but they allow us to match up strengths. It matters. D-line rotation is great as well.
It all matters.

We are much better defensively right now than we were in week 2 or three, much better.

LSU defense played a full game, Save for one mixed up coverage on the wheel route for 50? Yards. You realize if you take that one play out ATM total offense for the game is about 100 yards and likely a shutout. Way better than the other number ones they played. Enjoy the moment.

Chaisson showed a really good spin move, at least once. If he does that more often he'll be much better IMO. The other thing I liked was the 1 D lineman and 4 speed rushers on passing downs. Was that new for this game, or have we used it before?

That and the fact the players gave it their all every single snap while most of the a&m players were ready to go home by halftime.

It's usually not just one or the other. We made an average offense look terrible

The defense did play great, and I’m not here to argue that. Like everyone else, I like what I saw. I’m simply stating that they’ve also had good performances against the other 2 bad offenses they’ve played. That’s a fact. Has the D turned the corner or is this just another example of them playing well against a very bad offense.

A&M offense looked really good last week moving the ball on the UGA defense in the second half. It had me worried going into this one. Whether a&m just shat the bad last night or not, idk but our d did better against them than UGA's for sure

Which leads me to think that Aranda was in fact sand-bagging a lot (especially late in games when we were up big).

Well Vandy hung 31 on this same defense. I would say the defense was night and day better all around. They looked like a top 5 D

Just watched the replay on the SEC Network. With the exception of the one long pass (46 yards) and the one long run (26 yards, I think?), the defense stayed dialed in and smothered them with pressure all night. Defense definitely played lights out.

Well let's see

They went to Clemson and scored 10 points on supposedly the #1 scoring defense

They scored 13 on UGA who supposedly has the #2 scoring defense

They scored 20 on Auburn, who has the #16 scoring defense even after giving up so many points to Bama.

They scored 28 on Bama who supposedly have the #18 scoring defense and I remember exactly that it was ranked #10 just last week.

They also played the #31 defense in LSU.

Obviously if you did just a tad more research, your realize that they probably played (and I talked about this all off-season), the toughest schedule in college football. They played the #1, #2, #16, #18, and #31 scoring defenses. Hell the next two defenses they played were also in the top half of the country. They played 3 of the top 4 teams and after the conference championship games, they'll likely have a resume of 5 top 10 teams from their regular schedule alone

TAMU actually isn't too bad. They kept 3 of those 5 games within 2 TDs despite not having a run game. Even after what LSU did yesterday, they're still in the top 40 scoring defenses. Before that game yesterday, Mond had 19 TDs to only 6 ints (almost the exact same int to pass ratio as Burrow), and was completing 63.5% of his passes. Here are his numbers vs the other 4 teams

Clemson 57% 235 yards 1 TD 1 int
UGA 59.5% 275 yards 1 TD
Auburn 63.3% 335 yards 2 TD
Bama 57% 264 yards 2 TD 90 rush yards 1 TD

So no, it makes no sense to put down Mond or their offense that badly. They aren't great, but they are nowhere near as bad as the numbers make them out to be.
