No 2019 defense was not elite. Our offense was EPIc but defense allowed over 20pts per game. 2003-2011 last time we've seen a defense like that.

The 2019 defense was elite when the DL and secondary got healthy again in the final 4 and most important games. They gave up less yards and points to an incredibly talented Clemson team than the supposedly "all-everything" Ohio State defense did one game before. And even earlier in the year, when we actually needed a stop in one of the closer games, the defense got one, which is part of the reason why no team ever had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead in the 4th quarter.

They were elite when healthy and when the stakes were the highest, and IMO that's how they should be viewed because the full season stats don't account for any context regarding an extreme outlier of a team.

So the last 5 years or so since its inception?

Nah their ratings go back longer then 5 years. They said the number of years in the video I watched and it was either since 2004 or 2014, can't remember which.

Let’s see how good they are when teams see more film of them. Plus, they’ll need to stay healthy.

However, the depth, speed and Baker’s mind and scheme makes me lean 2025. Based on one game, this defense has a tenacity and hunger and aggression that I haven’t seen in a long time

The only caveat is that Clemson doesn't have a stud running back this year. All other Clemson offensive units are rated in PFF'S top 10.

Also, MAYBE some teams can scheme against Perkins. Overall, an incredible first game performance for players who for the most part had never played a game together.

I think Clemson offense is really overrated too. We played great and look fast and strong, but let’s hold until a bigger sample size.
