I equate small ball to the option in football. If you're playing ahead that's great. But you're fricked if you fall behind.

Texas better not let ASU jump out to 3 or 4 run lead.

The bats being dialed back is the big question mark to me..If we were using those bats today our numbers would be higher, and if those teams from the 90's were using today's bats no way you have 188...

The other 300 or so division I teams use the same bats. We were first in HRs by a mile in 1997. This year's team is 32. There is no comparison of the power between the two teams.

Besides I really don't think the main way to measure the greatness of the team is by how many bombs it can hit.

You're right, but the 57-13 record speaks for itself. We simply dominated teams in 1997. The current team has shown it can dominate in the postseason thus far, but nothing like the 1997 team.

Would you stipulate that the parity in College ball is much greater now and far more difficult to dominate in today's game?

I think so, and based on that our record to me is more impressive. The SEC is tougher today than IMO. IN addition the Format change with the SR added in as well..Just seems that it is alot more competitive today then back then.

The bats being a tiny bit wider doesn't account for twice as many HR's... especially when the other teams had them too.

Doug Thompson was money. Brandon Larson was insane. Coogan was money. Blair Barbier, Danny Higgins, Eddie Furniss, Shipp, Jason WIlliams, Wes Davis... they were great.

This team still has 4 games to play... let's hold off with the victory parade just yet.

That's just wrong. 97 CWS had 4 (four) teams from the SEC West. And that doesn't count a very good UF team or Tenn.

The pitching on the 97 team was every bit as good as 09 (outside of a dominant closer). Overall, starters were better (Coogan/Thompson just as good as LC/AR) and the other starters/pitchers were much better (Shipp, Painich, Demouy, Daugherty, etc. better than Ross & Co.)

This is WAY premature.

ONE game at a time. LSU plays again on Friday, don't look past that game.

This entire thread should be deleted with apologies to the baseball gods.

its impossible to call. its all going to be opinion.

as for the 188 HRs in 97, they have significantly changed the specs on the bats, so idk. i thought ALL the c-ship teams were the best we've ever had haha

As with HRs, the ERAs from that era are inflated. Not much difference between 3.99 today and 4.62 in 1997. I'd call it a push.

Honestly.... We had it so good in the 90's. There's never been this long of a drought between champions. It's fair to say that this team holds the key to getting back to the ultimate respect and to complete the re-energizing of the program, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

This HAS TO HAPPEN. It's been too long for such awesome fans to wait.

Tim Lanier was a pleasure to watch behind the plate.

I did not realize the 91 team had 7 players make it in MLB. 13 Were drafted and 7 actually saw time on MLB Rosters... Maybe they should be included in discussion

Got to go with the oddsmakers on this one and say this is not LSU best team. Wasn't Vegas giving 45-1 odds only a few weeks ago.
