55 to St. Louis, 70 to Kansas City, then 29 to Omaha. I have gone this way twice and it's good, but a friend of mine just drove up there and he went 55 to Memphis then Jonosboro AR to Springfield MO then Kansas city then Omaha.

I spent the summer up there, and I took the scenic route. Went through Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Stopped in Norman, Stillwater, and Lincoln to take a look at campuses/stadiums along the way.

Depends on what you mean by "best". I'm from Denham Springs and live near K.C. A family with children would probably find it more convenient to stick with the Interstate ... Memphis-St Louis-KC-Omaha.
The quickest and more scenic route with not many 2-lane sections would be Memphis-Jonesboro-Springfield-KC-Omaha...just not as many eating/bathroom break places in between.
