Seriously, though. I think Michael Clayton was. Josh Reed was a product of the offense we ran for a large part, Clayton was just the best athlete in LSU history.

the best athlete was not Clayton. not sure who was the best atlete to ever play at LSU but i assure you Jerry Stovall and Tommy Cassanova have to be mentioned as two of the best athletes to ever play at LSU.

I think Todd Kinchen deserves some mention here.

Whoa, easy now.

Its easily debatable, but Reed has the resume to be in discussions for best SEC WR ever. He was the best WR in the SEC in 2000 and 2001. How many WRs in the history of the SEC were the best for two straight years? Add on top of that his 2001 year was clearly the best WR single season performance in SEC history...

So I don't know why you would say "easy now," as if Reed isn't even in the discussion.

Josh Reed wasn't the best ever day one, b/c on day one he was playing RB and converted to WR.

The thing I remember most is how well he ran routes and how open he was when he caught the ball. His YAC (yards after catch) must have been way up there.

I always remember Josh Reed being wide open over the middle all of the time and thinking that the opposing team db's were terrible.

I wish Xavier Carter would have played 4 years of football, that may have been interesting.

Lafell had some sweet TD's as a freshmen. If he has a big year his name could swirl around the topic. Bowe I think is the best from Day one, but having JR throwing to him helped.

minimal, you want me to elaborate on the brawl? i was there, i was not entirely sober, i hate tulane. there is no way a late td started this brawl. the game was fairly close and we scored late. tulane took exception, but there was trash talked all night and i think eric had had enough. as far as fallout, it could have finally made the admin at LSU realize that playing tulane every yr. was a mistake. it was no win for us. they trashed LSU, they trashed the players, etc, etc. and it cost us money. who needs that shite? who needs tulane? LSU doesn't. eric kicked arse and it was great. he was interviewed on the radio afterwords and basically he said tulane did not come to play football, they came to disrupt us anyway they could, penalties, trash talking, etc. i say good riddance. i don't care if we ever play those bastards again.

Josh Reed WAS the best ever to play at LSU for one season, but he only had two full seasons at WR. Michael Clayton was one receiver that played a considerable amount his freshman year through his senior year. Clayton doesn't get enough credit for being a DEVASTATING blocker. He was ridiculous blocking on the outside. Josh Reed wouldn't have had nearly the success on those screen passes without Clayton bulldozing a path out there for him.

I agree. When people start throwing out GOATS it just kinda throws up a red flag because it's so debatable.

Josh Reed can sit at the same table with Tebow and Hershel easily.

The man's records in the SEC won't be broken for a long time.......

Josh Reed and here's why-

He always could create amazing seperation from the DB's. Doubters should watch his route running and how he schooled Eugene Wilson in the 2001 Sugar Bowl

Never had a case of the dropsies.

YAC was insane. I've never seen him run out of bounds after a reception. He had to be dragged down by 3 or 4 defenders.

He never took any plays off and was a great blocker.

And of course his stats back all this up
SEC record for receiving yardage in a game (293 vs. Alabama in 2001) and season (1,740 in 2001). 3000 yards in just 2 seasons as receiver
SEC season record for receiving yardage per game (145.0 in 2001) and is second in the career receiving yardage per game (96.8).

I'd take a reliable receiver like Reed anyday over any 5 star WR.

Eric Martin. He was the best in the clutch.
