Besides QB . . .

what one position concerns you the most for next year?
Mine would be WR. RR is as fluid an athlete as Ive seen but needs to show he can consistently separate from coverage.
RS needs to prove the same thing: that he can run a precise route and get distance from the defender.
The rest of the guys are largely unproven.
The blocking of our WR's has dropped off as well. I think thats one of the reasons we've had trouble running outside the tackles and throwing screen passes.
FWIW- this is not a rant. Just itching for some football discussion.

Linebacker--- having to replace Shep is going to be difficult. and the linebackers who look like they will start are undersized for their position unless they have put on some weight from last year.

Return game..
I know we are STACKED with tremendous athletes, but transforming that into being a great return man is tough sometimes.
Good returns equal changes in field position advantages which helps take the pressure off of an offense. Could easily hep us win a game or 2 this year with a great return game.

Yeah- LB would be 1b on my list. Baker is due for a big year, but the other 2 spots will have to step up to allow Chavis to do all he'd like to do with the talent on the line and in the backfield.

DL/OL
This is true every year.

DL/OL
I agree every year the lines are critical. But I think this o-line will continue the improvement they started last year.
And the DL could be outstanding if Montgomery comes back strong and we stay healthy.

QB does not concern me nor any other position on the FB team.........

A good DL will plug the gaps and free the LBs to roam the field and make tackles, as well as open up blitzing lanes to get into the backfield. Pressure means that the DBs don't have to stay with the WRs for as long.
A good OL will open up rushing lanes, allowing the RBs to churn out consistent yardage, while also creating a pocket for the QB to stand in and locate open receivers, giving him time to progress his reads (or tuck it if necessary).
It's amazing how much the lines can compensate for lacking in other areas.

Kicker
We know what we're getting from the returning players (hopefully they continue to develop). It's the unproven players that become full time starters that I'm most concerned about... and interested in seeing succeed.

I have two and their pretty vague.
1 – Interior front seven – Last year teams went off-tackle and around the edge on us due to Nevis and Shep up the middle. This year teams will try to go up the middle against us. We have some good players at DT, but not all the much proven depth and a new MLB in Minter.
2 – Special Teams – Like someone mentioned, people forget how important special teams have been for us lately. Say what you want about Robinson’s recruiting efforts (or lackthereof), but he fielded elite special teams units. Without them we don’t beat WVU or UNC and a number of other teams.
Those would be my main two.

For the most part this has been said every year, but chavis has gotten the best out of what he has to work with.
Im not worried about the defense. BT will be the qb on defense this year. We missed him the last 4 games of the season. He is a solid player.
Oline, we lost barksdale but gained blackwell. Not to mention hebert gives us depth at center and guard if needed.
Im excited to see our dline with a healthy montgomery and hopefully a beefed up mingo. We also have the depth to rotate the dline around to always have fresh legs.
WR is unproven at this point. Will randle step up and become an elite wr in the sec? Can shep be the playmaker we thought he would? Regardless of who is playing qb these guys still have to make the plays.
The kicking game has me worried too. I think we will have success in KR/PR game. Field position will be huge for us if we cant decent play from our qbs.

omg, this is the second thread i've read today with a legitimate, insightful discussion taking place. It's like everyone is replacing their inner instinct for with a brain.
After reading the thread about the Wr's earlier, i'd have to say them. I remember Armand Williams dominating in big cat drills last year, and I hope he can become a strong blocking presence on the outside.
